Gpu core and Kodi running on arm?

Postby trashman1101 » Mon Oct 14, 2019 10:29 pm

I know this isn't a rpi, and isn't trying to be, but i think it would be cool to be able to use misters strong scaler with kodi. I know the arm isn't very good but it would be interesting to see. Also i know there is no gpu so there would need to be a core to suppliant one. I was thinking of starting a bounty source for $50 to sweeten the reward. Just wanted to post here before i went ahead and did it and see any opinions.

It's more wise to spend your $50 to buy an RPi for this purpose.
GPU is not the thing can be easily coded by amateur using low-level FPGA. Check the frequencies of GPU.

See what is written above me ^
A GPU core on MiSTer just for KODI seems like a waste to me.
There are so many cheaper alternatives for KODI than MiSTer which is really not
the sorta device or project that would work well for KODI.
It is really more suited to recreate old console and computers and arcade machines.
That $50 you have burning a hole in your pocket should go towards a nice 2Gb RAM Pi 4
and you can install RetroPi on it and run KODI and old machines on it very well, even many things
that aren't running on MiSTer.
That sounds like what you actually want....

Probably you can have it, just you should raise the bounty a bit. Suitable dev boards which you can start coding with:

Well, if we are talking GPUs I would think SVGA for ao486 would maybe be more doable and have more purpose, although I can sympathise with your wish for a jack of all trades device.

Id be willing to go up to 100$ but i wanna see of any devs are up for the challenge before i post it. Untill then i will experiment with other media type setups. I see vlc has a plugin systems that supports many streaming video platforms.

^^ yeah, there were so many interesting GPUs in the 90s... this type of dev, would really open up some options for PC gaming...

on a (semi)-related note, I'd love to see somebody tackle the video toaster support for the minimg core... although maybe (probably) the de-10 has insufficient I/O.

Wouldn't that require another board for the IO and then how useful would a Video Toaster actually be in 2019?
