SNES core

Postby Sorgelig » Thu Nov 29, 2018 12:38 pm

This topic is about new core - SNES.

This is a port of original SNES sources from srg320. This port has been done with big help from srg320!

Before you start to report bug in games, please read this page about accelerators used in games:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_S ... ment_chips

SNES core supports accelerators:
- DSP-1/2/3/4
- ST010
- CX4
- SDD-1
- SuperFX(GSU1/2)
- SA1
- OBC1

Bug reports about games with other accelerators ARE NOT ACCEPTED.

Sergey(srg320) will receive MiSTer i hope within a month and will be able to continue development directly on MiSTer.

Hi,

thank you for this amazing core! I tested a lot of games which work well, but there are also some with issues:

In "Donkey Kong Country (E) (V1.1)", the backmost parallax layer is purple.
"Dungeon Master (E)" only shows garbage in the main view when the game is started.
In "Prince of Persia 2 - The Shadow & The Flame (E)" parts of the title screen and the ingame background are green.
"Pinball Fantasies (E)" does not work at all.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I forgot to tell. Do not use PAL versions as this mode is not optimal (currently).
So, re-test NTSC version of these games to make sure problems are still there.

This is so great! Thank you!

And it's the first hybrid Core, isn't it? (Processing header on arm side?) That's also fantastic!

On VGA there is no GUI.

Are some special chips simply not possible due to technical limitations?

Pinball Fantasies works now (both NTSC & PAL), perhaps it needed a reboot between switchting games.

The others show the same symptoms as mentioned above:
  • Donkey Kong Country (U) (V1.2)
  • Dungeon Master (U)
  • Prince of Persia 2 - The Shadow & The Flame (U)

In Super Metroid (USA, JP) there is some minor sprite corruption on the timer and doors while the screen is shaking during the beginning scenario where you escape from the space station.

In Legend of Zelda - A link to the past (USA) some sounds are intermittently missing, like picking up rupees or swinging a sword.

F-Zero (U).sfc. Time doesn't count up properly and has letters and numbers in it. When completing the lap the score counter has the same issue and there is a constant beep from the score.

Street Fighter 2 (U).sfc, Street Fighter 2 Turbo (U) (Rev 1).sfc and Super Street Fighter 2 (U).sfc similar issue with the score and time counters.

All 3 Donkey Kong Country Titles end up in a copy protection message to me.

Donkey Kong Country (U) (V1.0)
Donkey Kong Country 2 - Diddy´s Kong Quest (U) (V1.0)
Donkey Kong Country 3 - Dixie Kong´s Double Trouble (U) [!]

Sounds like you are not using the official build of the core. Make sure you're using the one that was just released, not any of the old WIP builds.

Thanks for the new core. I can't seem to get anything running, I'm using NTSC roms and I just get a black screen.

I am using the iBuffalo SNES controller. All keys are mapped, no buttons left for the menu. Can I assign a button combination for OSD menu (like down + select)?

You cannot assign combination. You can skip OSD button and then use keyboard to open OSD.
Or use joystick with more buttons.

I had the same problem until I remembered the Mister binary had to be updated as well.
