Latest core release hardly displays any picture for me (Genesis_20181016.rbf) - All is black or completely garbled. Anyone else having issues?

Genesis_20181003.rbf works flawlessly...

if you don't press the start button and wait for comics to start, then press the start - you won't see the dots anymore.
It's unclear currently why it happens.

This is the same version but with more aggressive optimization:

Basically with NN scaling i'm free from scaling parameters. I remember how much time i've spent to find more or less good amount of phases, taps and Lanczos2/3 for polyphase.
NN + HQ2x gives good results for large screens and still gives some retro pixelated feeling 8)

The compatibility is great now , the sound is not perfect but is good in a lot of games .
"kawasaki superbikes challenge" has problems in the lower part of the screen in game.

In the last version if you use scanlines after sometimes the scanlines go up and down , the problem is solved after some time.

Thanks - Sorgelig! I did a re-test and the latest release Genesis_20181016.rbf works (also without aggressive optimizing).

I guess I had a glitch on my end. All good now.

Agreed, the Genesis core is looking better and better. Every game I've tried has worked well and the image quality is stunning :D

Only issue I've noticed is the audio crackling in certain games (Castle of Illusion, etc)

Am I doing something wrong with scanlines with latest release? They look unconventional to say the least.

There is a new scaler in development and scanlines do not work properly right now. Disable it or use previous Version.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the MiSTer scene. Currently waiting for additional boards so that I can use the Amiga side of things. But while I'm waiting I thought I'd look at some Megadrive/Genesis. I've not found anywhere yet where issues are officially reported so I'm putting them here for now. If anyone can direct me to where I should post issues it would be most appreciated. All I can say though is I'm impressed with what I've seen so far.

Here are the issues I've come across.

- Hellfire - seems to play at EU 50hz only. Changing the region to JP or US doesn't make any difference to music speed or game speed, neither does loading a "US.md"/"JP.bin" rom file. Same results with releases 20181010 & 20181016.

- Revenge of Shinobi / Super Shinobi - quite a few sound issues. The biggest and most notable one is the music to the start of level 2 (water fall and rock level). Sounds the same with releases 20181010 & 20181016.

- Daimakaimura (Japanese version of Ghouls & Ghosts - Music is way too slow although the game speed appears to be fine. The EU/US versions of the game music seem to be fine though! I've only tested this with 20181010.

Double Dragon 2: i don't see a problem with 3button mode. What's the problem exactly? But this game wrongly test some ports and look incorrect in last release. Will be corrected in next release.
Double Dragon : will be fixed in next release.
Bram stokers Dracula : will be fixed in next release.

Any idea what could be causing the intermittent background audio crackle that's noticeable in certain games such as Castle of Illusion ?

When I was hearing crackling sounds in the TI99 core, the issue was addition overflow. I haven't looked closely at the Genesis core, but it might be worth checking.

Hi, guys

I'm testing latest Genesis core and I have found that you have gone the NEAREST_NEIGHBOUR route for scaling. That causes horrible crawling effects on uneven scaling. Scaling the Genesis 320x240 to my monitor's 1360x768 causes a very noticeable and ugly crawling, as it will do with any output mode not being an exact 320x240 multiple.
So, can you please go back to the old POLYPHASE scaling method or at least include an option to use it instead of that terrible NEAREST agorithm? The NEAREST algorithm totally destroys the core for me...

An option in MiSTer.ini is enough... Please, don't force NN on us all :(

Problably is the same problem you detect , with 3 button mode , in the start of the game , where the "bad boys" shot the girl ,the game has pauses in gameplay , in 6 button modes works more fluid, but maybe not perfect.

Sorgelig, thank you for the new update to the Genesis core. I just played Contra Hard Corps and noticed that the song Charshoe X is missing some notes. You can use the sound test to reproduce this. This is how it should sound like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1velVMs7vqM&t=47s

Would it be possible to add an option to increase the sprite limit? Some sprite-heavy games like Outrun would definitely benefit from this.

Thanks for the newest update Sorgelig! Really glad you were able to make the scaling configurable.

The only issue I've noticed so far is that in Gauntlet 4 the movement is very slow and choppy. I haven't tested it in any earlier builds so I'm not sure if it's a regression or not.

I have a small suggestion for the core. As you know, many games on the system relied on composite video artifacts to archieve fake transparency effects, "new" colors, etc. A very graphical example:

Image

For some more examples:

http://www.chrismcovell.com/gotRGB/rgb_compare2.html

So, there's this fantastic Blargg's NTSC algorithm available here:

https://github.com/libretro/Genesis-Plu ... /core/ntsc

Could it be incorporated to the Genesis core? I know it's not "modern" looking by any means, but artists relied on these composite artifacts to create game effects, so I believe it's not a too crazy idea either

I have seen this too. Both Gauntlet (Japaneese version of the same game) and Gauntlet 4 seem to exhibit the same issue.
