EEPROM won't be used. MiSTer accepts different RTC chips with different eeprom capacity and even without eeprom. RTC is an optional expansion.
SD card is enough for storage.

Just a quick word about my experience making and selling SDRAM Boards too encourage other to try too.

IMG_20171126_135739610.jpg

I did make 9 SDRAM boards:
- 6 passed the 150 MHz (Send 5 to Europe 1 in the US)
- 2 passed “only” the 140 MHz (I send 1 in the US and keep one form me)
- 1 was destroyed (that was the first one I reversed the header! I destroyed the board trying to fix the issue).

Solder/Clean/Inspect one board might have taken me around 30 mins. You also have to add the testing time (each board was tested for 2-3 hours), the packaging and the trips to the post office. (may be 5-6 hours overall).

IMG_20171121_081017261.jpg

I spend $26 to order the boards (10*SDram, 10*IO and 10*RTC) form PCBway (the quality/price is really good).
I spend another $35 to order the SDRAM chips, capacitors from Digikey and an extra $4 for the 20 headers (https://www.ebay.com/itm/20Pcs-2-54mm-P ... 2749.l2649).

I sold 7 boards for around $26 without Shipping (SDRAM board + IO board PCB only + RTC board PCB only). For a total of around $170 minus the different fees (Paypal and sometimes Ebay). For a benefice a $105 for 5-6 hours of work.

Do I want to do/sell more short term? No, I need to spend more time with my kids on the weekend and the time spend outweigh the money earned. but I might have one I/O board and one RTC board to sell next month will see.

Do I want to do more in the next 6-8 month? May be. I might do another batch (5 or 10) but only if the community really need more and other guys can’t keep up.

I did some video while soldering a board. I will try to post it. It is easy even if it is SMD. You just have to take your time and have a good soldering iron and some de-soldering wick (https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-5mm-1-5m-Goo ... 2749.l2649).

Conclusion: I’m encouraging people to give it a shoot too. I really like the experience, it was fun to make the boards and I also appreciate the felling of contribution (even if it is only a tiny bit) to this great project
:D.

Hi all,

I have bought the components for building a SDRAM ROM, but I am not able to get it soldered. Maybe I am too old I cannot really see these small parts.

Is someone happy to build and test it for me when I send him the parts?
I am also happy to buy a ready made and tested one.

I live in Germany, so someone in Europe would be appreciated.

He posted his website a few replies up, he is selling some assembled ram boards, and io pcbs. Better get the assembled ram before its gone, i think he only made a few.

I started with 100 SDRAM and RTC boards. I am waiting on more connectors for the SDRAM boards, so those will go first from the batch I have already built (10). I am not making assembled IO boards. It's just too much work to have to hand solder one side of the board (after placing all of the parts on the other side and using a reflow oven).

I think acquiring an assembled IO board now is not very likely.

I'm trying to buy some boards but I failed to do so through your link, JimDrew. The only thing I could "buy" it's the heatsink.

Does anybody have a blank SDRAM PCB for sale? Europe would be great, but anywhere would be acceptable. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip! Pcbway offers 7$ shipping for a 5$ project, so I wanted to check other options first. If nobody has anything left over, I'll order it there and wait... thanks again.

Shipping cost depends where you live. It's $47 for me to receive a batch of boards!
