MiST / Atari ST core: random repeating phantom "key press"

Postby sblendorio » Fri Jan 26, 2018 8:11 am

Hi, sometimes it happens to me using Atari ST core: it's like there is a random "key press" of a random key. So like someone is keeping pressing a key on the keyboard. So, there is a continuous beep until I actually press a key on the keyboard.

Did someone experience the same?

I get exactly the same issue. I'm not sure whether it's only an issue in the latest version of the ST core, I'll try an earlier version and see what happens.

It sounds like a well known TOS-problem. Especially after a program terminates the keyboard overflow with a random
character. The solution is to hold backspace untill it ends. However with accelerated STs the overflow may be faster
than reading the backspace, and a reset is needed. This has been descussed before. It happens on real STs too.
I can't remember if there ever was a patch against it; but none of clone-designers have bothered to solve it.

I get this happening with the MiST configured as a regular 8MHz STE or FM. Booting to the desktop and waiting for 10 seconds is usually enough to trigger the keypresses.

This is an issue on real STs. Shows the core is accurate when it reproduces the bugs too. ;)

Strange. I never had the issue with my real ST booting up, and my MiST "HDD" is a 100% image of my real ST drive.
Not a big deal, but mildly annoying.
