Can someone validate something for me before I post another issue on the MiST Sam Coupé Github?

Download Fred 82:

http://www.worldofsam.org/node/659

Insert the disk image to the virtual MiST Sam Coupé drive.

Boot the disk (is automatic from the startup screen, or press F9).

Press A for the Editorial.

I get a "File Not Found" *every* time, but if I then GOTO the line it's failing on (I think GOTO 490 but I'm not home to check) it launches.

It works properly on the Simcoupé emulator, as well as on a real SAM. (Okay, so I haven't tested it on my SAM in 2017, because I don't have an appropriate power supply or video cable here in the states, but it sure as hell worked on my real SAM when I received this issue of Fred back in the day).

Seems to work OK for me, using the second newest Sam Coupe core.

The newest core (SamCoupe_20170206.rbf), as pointed out previously, is quite erratic. The Lyra demo, for instance, does not run all the way through. The second newest core (SamCoupe_20170112.rbf) appears to be stable and everything runs fine.

I've never used a real Sam, so I can't comment as to how close it to the real thing.

Works OK with the newest core, too (20170206). Maybe jamesrc used older one? Or he has to update MiST firmware?

@Sorgelig - I saw that you updated some of the Core parts (for MiSTER I think). I installed the Altera software and built a new Release from your sources and it works on my MiST. :D
Remember I had issues (RAM timing?) with the last Core Release.

To save you building the Core I could attach it to a post with the name of your choice - SamCoupe_201870910.rbf ? or will you build yourself?

Is it easy to add 'Reset' to the OSD menu? Saves having to get up and press 'Reset' on the actual MiST box

if you plan to work on cores, then i suggest to fork it to your own repository and then release from there.

@Sorgelig. Was there any reason why you did not create the binary version on 2018.08.10 that included the changes?

i don't remember why.
Anyway, i've released the binary. But it's not tested.

Thanks a lot. Don't worry for that, I will test it and say you something if there is some issue.

Does anyone know how to load Pang?
https://www.worldofsam.org/products/pang

And how can I create a disk directly with the game?
I have no experience with this system.

Thanks for the help

Hello DanyPPC:

I have converted starsandsprites.dsk to MGT format disk with this tool: SAMdisk and I've created this sasprites.dsk that it works fine in Sam Coupé core.

sasprites.dsk.zip

I can't create a disk with only Pang game because I can't get colon caracter : with the keyboard :(

@Sorgelig: Could you please look at the definition of the keyboard and the reason why the colon character does not appear? Thank you.

--- ooo OOO ooo ---

EDIT: I tryed on my ZX-Uno with the Sam Coupé core by McLeod_Ideafix

On ZX-Uno
(with no SHIFT key pressed) n m , . -
(with SHIFT key pressed) N M ; : _

On MiST
(with no SHIFT key pressed) n m , . /
(with SHIFT key pressed) N M , . / <-- same characters

WTF! I tried left shift, left ctrl, left alt, Alt Gr, Windows key, right Alt and right ctrl, but never, never, tried right SHIFT :)

Thanks Sorgelig.

Ok, I had also converted the disk formato to DSK, but after the demo ends how do you access the game ?

@desUBIKado - can you attach the 'Pang only' disk please :D

And if anyone has a good collection of converted Sam Coupe disks they could attach/upload...

It is a nice system, we nearly bought one when our Spectrum died but... in the computer shop they had an AMIGA 500 (jaw drop!). In the the age before internet and only buying CRASH or Sinclair User magazine we did not know that the AMIGA even existed! Certainly exciting times back then.

Anyway I digress, glad the latest Core seems to work with all MiST PCB's and we can enjoy this rare very capable retro computer. Nice work again sorgelig 8)

Success !!!

1 - use SAMDisk to create a Blank diskette from (SAMDisk CREATE Blank.mgt)
2 - launch SamCoupe Core with allowed disk access, press RETURN to enter Basic
3 - insert MasterDOS 2.3 in Drive 1 and Blank diskette in Drive 2
4 - Reset (CTRL+F11) and Press F9 to boot MasterDOS
5 - insert "Stars and Secret" disk in Drive 1
6 - from command line digit:

COPY "d1:secret" TO "d2:secret"

7 - now insert SAMflate Disk in Drive 1 and digit:

COPY "d1:samflate.O" TO "d2:samflate.O"

8 - now insert Blank diskette in Drive 1 and digit and run the following Basic Program:

10 CLEAR 32767: LOAD "samflate.O" CODE 16384*28+8192: LOAD "secret" CODE 16384*14
20 CALL 16384*28+8192, 16384*14, 32768
30 SAVE "auto" CODE 32768, 390781, 32768

9 - after all is ok you can boot from MasterDOS 2.3 in Drive 1, insert Blank "Pang" diskette in Drive 1 and digit from commandline "BOOT"
10 - Pang will boot !!!

If you want an autobootable disk you can use a SamDOS2 disk where copy the three files "auto", "samflate.O" and "secret",
then you have a Bootable disk with the following files:

samdos2
auto
samflate.O
secret

Hope it's useful

Hi DanyPPC:

I had not seen your post, and had followed the instructions at the bottom of the page https://www.worldofsam.org/products/pang

and I created the disc with the game.

Here is the game (although it's more fun to do it yourself):

Pang.dsk.zip

Sorry for not reading the instructions more carefully

I see that in the section of the keyboard it is not indicated that the EDIT key of the SAM is mapped to the left Windows key of the PC keyboard

keyboard-Sam-Coupe.png

On the other hand, could you map the CNTRL key of the SAM to both CTRL keys on the PC keyboard, and the EDIT key of the SAM to both Windows keys Left windows key of PC keyboard and change the EDIT key of SAM to right windows key?

The CNTRL key would be useful to map a series of graphic characters with keys 1 to 8.

Hi,

How does the Stereo SAM DAC on LPT1 work?

I tried the attached demo - astro2 It gives a list of sound options, if I select '4' which is Stereo DAC on LPT1 I don't get any sound out of the 3.5mm audio jack? The normal Sam sound chip works fine.

Thanks

This afternon I tried Bunnik 2000 demo on simcoupe. I selected option 4)SAMDAC on LPT1. and the music didn't sound. On Parallel port i got "SAMDAC (8-bit stereo)". When I've changed to "DAC (8-bit mono)" the music has sounded. Now I tried astro2 demo and pass the same.
