Atari 8bit core

Postby NML32 » Mon Aug 25, 2014 11:26 pm

Mark Watson (foft) over at Atari Age has made several updates to the A8 core these past few weeks.

The latest MIST cores: http://www.scrameta.net/autobuild/

Just thought I'd post here in case any MIST owners didn't notice the updates.

20140801:
COMMON:Fix long filename directories
CHAMELEON:Tested C64 joysticks
CHAMELEON:Wired up C64 keyboard. See instructions.txt for layout notes.

20140802:
COMMON:Fix some missing long filenames

20140820:
COMMON:Increase max number of files (for all except AEON LITE)
CHAMELEON:Work around docking static joystick/keyboard interference
MIST:Add >8GB (up to 32GB) SD card support. NB: REQUIRES NEW FIRMWARE

20140821:
COMMON:Fix max number of files (firmware not built properly)
COMMON:Fix pokey noise filters (toggle vs sample on 4 bit poly and 17/9 bit poly)

20140824:
COMMON:More pokey improvements (two tone sound fix, inter channel noise delays, poly counter delay/inversion fixes).
MIST:Added PLL and NTSC specific plls. Matched timing more closing (now about 0.1% rather than 2%...).
CHAMELEON:Added PLL and NTSC specific plls. Matched timing more closing (now about 0.1% rather than 2%...).

20140825:
COMMON:Pokey poly counter fix (Poly 5 was inverted when it appears it should not be)

Hallo, I got problem with my MiST. Most games has corrupted PMG objects.
I tried many memory and ROMs configurations but result same.

What is your startup core? (i.e. the core.rbf on the SD card)
Also make sure to upgrade to latest firmware.

This is very strange. Can you run the memory test? Hold option on boot with no disk inserted.

:)

I got it. Everythings work perfect when TURBO is 1x.
I assumed that this is loading speed !

Thanks and live long Atari.

Excellent. Nope turbo is to adjust the CPU clock speed, which has some compatibility problems. To turbo load put in Hias' patched rom.

Sounds like I need to debug pmgs in turbo mode...

Nice, I didn't know about this. Going to patch my rom.

Link to the patch:
http://www.horus.com/~hias/atari/#hipatch

Its really great, but may be incompatible with some stuff...

For now the max speed is not adjustable in the drive emulation (divisor 6 iirc).

Made a note in the wiki about this, recommending to leave it at 1X for maximum compatibility.

Does the A8 cores support paddles?

Thanks

Yes, but the built in joystick ports do not. So you need to connect them via USB using a 2600dapter. Also there is a key to go into 'paddle mode' (since the 2600dapter sends fire as fire not as joystick presses.)

So as of today's build NML32's spreadsheet is at 100% compatibility! Many thanks to Phaeron for the help with the help with Spider City and Turmoil. If anyone has any failures please add them to NML32s sheet for investigation.

I love the A8 core but I was wondering if there is any possibility of adding VBXE functionality to the Atari core someday?
