MiST MINIMIG AGA News!

Postby vebxenon » Fri Jan 13, 2017 3:12 pm

From http://somuch.guru/2017/01/12/an-update ... -new-year/

I know there wasn’t much updates on the minimig status, but with good (;)) reason: I’ve been pretty busy, so I had little time to work on minimig updates. I did spend quote some time on rewriting the CPU <-> minimig interface, which will hopefully reduce timing problems and enable me to finally add the ethernet Zorro interface. The CPU clock will also be reduced to 28MHz, hopefully that won’t affect the CPU speed much. This is quite a complex task, so don’t expect results immediately.

On the other hand, I’m trying to fix some smaller problems and bug reports, and the intermediate beta releases will be available as I work toward the v1.3 release. I already have the supporting scripts ready that will help me build the firmware & core, increase build numbers, git tag & commit, zip it up and upload it to the server. First of these releases is already available here:

http://meditation.somuch.guru/minimig/f ... 1_beta.zip

Or, alternatively, there will be a .zip file that will always contain the last released version here:

http://meditation.somuch.guru/minimig/f ... latest.zip

Don’t expect too many changes though – each new release will probably only contain two or three small updates. In this release, just two changes are important: fixing the SDRAM refresh counter, which should help with RAM stability, and the OSD display fix for productivity video modes. More to follow soon, though! :wink:

Cheers!

Great!! :cheers: :cheers:

Hi, tried this core a bit tonight and for me it is a lot more compatible than before. For example I can use the option Turbo (ChipRam+Kick) and a lot of games that crashed or didn't work ok now run flawlesly.
The only issue is that I couldn't run the frontend iGame (but don't think it worked with previus cores neither).

Hey, about iGame, try to download last beta version http://winterland.no-ip.org/igame/files ... -11-29.lha , and change the "NoScreenshots" options. It works well in previous core versions :wink:

I don't know if now works with screenshots and the -nofpu option.

This new beta of the minimig core seems to have solved my weird crashing problem I had with OS 3.9 (if I set memory to 24mb .. opened a new CLI shell then did a command like "dir" it would cause the core to reboot ..)

Yay! It indeed fixed a lot of games that just crashed before (Using WHDLoad) and finally for the first time i even can play Pinball Fantasies and get a proper picture (not distorted, only partially visible or pink tinted). So far only Pinball Illusions doesn't seem to work (crashes when hitting F1 to start a game in table babewatch).

Thank you so much!

1.2.2 released yesterday with some turbo related fixes (I wonder if it can be kept on now and/or if it's not required anymore to get all AGA games fullspeed).

Thanks Rok !!

Partly off-topic : news regarding WHDLoad frontends...
- there was a new beta of tinylauncher (check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCC9i6pVMDA) ; a nice new feature is your games collection can be spread over multiple partitions and the list will be merged. D/L here : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/156 ... uncher.exe
- the was a new beta of xbench (V1.00) with games screenshots ! (http://www.jimneray.com/xbench.html) It's heavier than TL (loading times) but still very acceptable for a low end Amiga.

Hope someday iGame will work with screenshots. Although I use the "NoScreenshots" option, I think iGame is the most confortable GUI for WHDLoad. It reminds me a lot to MAME frontends :)

iGame requires some libs and mcc's:

* guigfx.mcc
* TextEditor.mcc
* render.library
* guigfx.library

Make sure your installation contains MUI and the above libraries. You can find the latest versions in Aminet.

If you're having problems with iGame starting (guru 8000000B) try these libraries instead (Thanks to Jools 'buzz' Smyth for providing them):

guigfx_render_nofpu.lha http://winterland.no-ip.org/igame/files/guigfx_render_nofpu.lha

I remember my first days without FPU this solution worked well on my A1200. That's not the case on MiST. I don't know why!

I used to use TinyLauncher, works very well, fast and eyecandy, but had that multiple path limitation. Anyway the version that supports multiple paths I think is still not launched, the executable you linked only show one path for games.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure this version does support it. Well, at least several paths can be configured, but I didn't check if they were taken into account :) I'll double check !

Just been trying to get Pinball Illusions working. I had WHDLoad slave version 2.2 and it crashed out to Workbench.
I then updated to version 2.3 and it crashes once you select the table :( - to note, the table starts but as it scrolls down the table it crashes. RAM issue?
I tested my Hardfile on WinUAE and it works.
Is Core 1.2.3 still being work on?

Thanks

EDIT - I should give more clear info:

MinimigAGA core 1.2.2 (Kick 3.1, 2mb CHIP 24mb FAST, and tried with 'Turbo RAM' on and off).
WHDLoad 18.3
Pinball Illusions AGA Slave 2.2 & tried with Slave 2.3

I confirm, Pinball Illusions doesn't work.

MinimigAGA core 1.2.0
WHDLoad 18.3
Pinball Illusions AGA Slave 2.2

It doesn't work, and it's known by the core developer :-) He also reads the issues in his github.

I have found where to place issues. https://github.com/rkrajnc/minimig-mist/issues
I won't add Pinball Illusions if the problem is already known.

I need to test 'Battle Squadron' again. I think it was this game I tried and the background was missing? And I think I was using AGA & WHDLoad/igame.

Hi,
I would like to play Hired Guns with my son.
It is best to play two mice like the real Amiga.
Before I buy the other mouse - I have question:
Will this work?
There are two contradictory information about this:

from Rok site: http://somuch.guru/minimig/minimig-mist/#features
Features supported
peripherals : real Amiga mice, real Amiga joysticks, USB keyboards, USB mice, USB gamepads, MIDI in / out

from Mist wiki:
https://github.com/mist-devel/mist-boar ... eripherals
Currently unsupported are:
Original Atari ST and Amiga mice

Only one mouse is presented to the system. If more than one mouse is connected they all drive the system mouse.

If two mice works independently, should I have two USB or one USB and Amiga 9-pin second?

If I read that correctly, it means the original/DB9 mice are not supported, and USB will only drive a single mouse.

The document "GettingStarted" from the wiki is 2015. Perhaps it is outdated as the description of ZX Spectrum core with esxdos support.
Rok Krajnc wrote:

I suppose the core Minimig-Mist from 01.2017 with Amiga mouse (9-pin) support could work.
So I have request:
Is there anyone with USB and real Amiga mouse? to check it out. (games like: Hired Guns, Lemmings, Settlers)

@yarko , mate go ahead and buy the 2nd mouse, I just checked the Hired guns (disk version) on minimig (latest v 1.2.2 from http://meditation.somuch.guru/minimig/f ... st/latest/) using 2 amiga mice (one original the other Amiga/ST hybrid (on Amiga mode) ), the game is working with 2 mice, just make sure there is no other mouse (eg PS/2) is connected on the mist.
