Help identify some kit?

Postby spacedmonkeys » Wed Jun 07, 2017 11:41 am

Hi I picked up an ST to refurbish for myself... it came with a load of stuff, some of which I have no idea what it is?

Can anyone identify the box in the picture, it has the two interface cables extending from it, and the midi cables seem to have the "jack" type ends which fit in to the smaller holes on top??

Can't seem to attach pictures (saying too large even though they are less than 500kb)

So here is a link to the pics in Flickr

I'm no expert but it could have something to do with midi timings or synchronization for multiple devices.

I would open that box up to see if there is any circuitry inside.

Ok, I will open it up tonight after work.
There was, what looks like, two people who contributed to the pile of stuff that I picked up.. one being a programmer/dabbler (there was devpac and some other programming stuff and loads of project disks) and the other being a music person as there are some disks of their own midi music projects (not sure what they were made in).
No manuals or software that I can tell.
It was a bog standard 520STE as far as I know - I will open that up as well later and see if it has 4mb ram installed or anything else interesting inside).
I am in the UK and picked it up from the south coast.

Obviously, the left picture is just about two MIDI cables, possibly an antenna/TV cable and a cable with 3.5 mm stereo jack, probably for an audio connection.

I have no idea what's in the middle and the right picture. It will be intersting to see, what's inside the box.

Charles there is a bunch of stuff, all originals with disks, manuals and binders, mostly Hisoft - Devpac 2, Modulo, and Wercs along with a boxed copy of Campus Draft (not programming I know).

It looks like Switchsoft's input/output box mentioned in Atari ST Review magazine issue 1.

Looks like some sort of breakout-box for the parallel and serial ports.

Well looks like it is nothing to do with midi after all sorry guys ... it definitely looks like an early version of that "switchsoft" input/output box.

There are no electronics inside just various wires connected from the flat cables to the input/output ports.

Not as exciting as I had first thought!

Thanks for the help!
