Python on Raspberry?

Postby Strider » Wed Nov 11, 2015 8:15 pm

Hello,

Could anyone tell me what is the Linux distribution in the CosmosEx?
Is it possible to install Python?
I'd like to run some Python scripts on the Raspberry and interact with the ST.

It's a custom distribution (build by Yocto system), so you just can install it from some repository. You could build the python from scratch (on the build image, which contains gcc), but as that might be too complicated, I could also try to build the python using the Yocto, then give you the whole linux image, from which you would copy out the python (and its libraries) and put it in your linux image.

Thanks for your reply Jookie, on the other hand I don't want to give you extra work because you surely have a lot of work
Instead, I wonder if it is possible to install CosmosEx software on a more popular Linux distribution such as Raspbian?

It is possible, but:
- you will have to compile the app on Raspbian from sources
- you will have to make sure that other features accessing GPIO, SPI and UART are turned off (some GPIOs are used in Raspbian, and the UART is user for kernel debug, you would need to turn these off)
- you will also make sure that nothing is using the CPU too much, otherwise you might have some data losses

That's quite a lot of work. As I have another Raspberry, I'm going to use it with a NFS share instead. Thanks for the answer though
