Okay, so apparently I am not allowed to compose or even reply to private messages because I only just recently registered. It says I have to participate more in discussions in order to be able to use PMs. O.o

In any case let me add some more details. I am in USA, NM. I need both the SDRAM and IO board. I would prefer to get them both from the same person to save on shipping.

Cya!

I have both lying around here. I will send it to you for free if it helps to get the VeriSNES on the MiSTer Platform :D

I was able to pick up a microscope, hot-air soldering iron and soldering paste. I ordered the boards this time with stencil and I am quit suprised and happy how much of a difference it makes compared to hand soldering. The capacitors are still soldered by hand, since 0805 is large enough to get it soldered in a good quality.

I've got used to solder it by hand. With enough rosin and wide knife-style tip it's not hard. And then clean with IPA :)
Soldering a lot of components on I/O board - is much harder.

Soldering paste is what makes real difference. You can achive great results with it even without stencil.

for chips there is no difference between hand-soldering with quality flux and baking with solder paste. I soldered few dozens of Cyclones IV (QFP-144) and even QFP-240 chips. It's all about quality flux, mini-spoon soldering tip and some skills.

Small parts baked with paste look way better due to optimal amount of solder and surface tensions that makes perfect self-alignment for small parts.

wow, that is extremly impressive. I didn't know that something like this is possible and I solder already for quit some time :D I guess I will get some new solder tips and a flux pen. What soldering tip would you recommend for such work? I see that he uses in the video something like this:

Is that correct?

I've suddenly realized i still didn't release ao486 with SoundBlaster. New version is available already!
Update MiSTer binary as well.

Great update!! Digital sound works great. Thank you!

For any of you wondering - base port is 0220h, IRQ is 5 and DMA 1.

It looks like it is mono - correct?.

ao486 is starting to become really useful with sound now

It's SoundBlaster 2.0 which always was mono.
I've saw some SB16 implementation (stereo), but i'm afraid it will require more CPU power to handle.

I use a Soundblaster Pro 4.0 back in the days. It was stereo but if memory serves me correct nobody really used stereo effect on the PC before the Soundblaster 16. Maybe the this could be a far away development target at some point. But OPL2 or OPL3 FM Synthesis would be more interesting for the area the 486 SX was used in.

Hi,

I am a user of the MIST and very impressed by Sorgelig MISTer creation (congratulation for the core developments). I have ordered my DE10-nano board today and expecting it to arrive in the upcoming days.

Now I am looking at how to procure the two daughter boards (assembled or PCB or components). Is there someone able to ship to France?

Cheers!

EDIT: No need for modules anymore. I have received PM already. Thanks a lot.

OPL2 in ao486 is not fully implemented according to original readme. Also it's written in very ineffective way and consume huge amount of LE, so there is no place left for 9 FM voices. You may ask jotego to write the OPL2/3 module as he is professional in Yamaha chip modules - then i will include it in ao486.
There are no other OPL implementations in FPGA which could be used. I've saw another OPL3 implementation in FPGA - but that is even more awful mix of CPU/FPGA usage and not intended to be used as a module in other projects.

@sorgelig : I'm sure this question was answered before but... Did you exchange with the MiST designer and with Rok about the future possible revisions of the official MiST (would the mister be the official one eventually) and the cooperation regarding the further revision of the AGA core ? Rok Krajnc had planned to implement quite a few more features (and there were still some issues - especially with the TURBO mode required for some AGA games but breaking compatiblity).

cheers !!

Yes we need jotego :-)

Speaking of which, has the Genesis core now the same code base as the one on the MiST? Wasn't there some missing latest sources for the sound part that was not put on github?

I finally managed to get time to test the board.
I created the microsd card using sd installer. I then added the C64 core at the root of the exFAT partition. The menu is present as menu.rbf.
But when I turn everything on, I don't get an image on my tv.
Is there something I'm missing ? Like the mister.ini that is missing ?
I can connect to the linux part using ssh root@ip. I tried the last MiSTer binary and the previous.
I don't have any expansion board connected.
When I boot using the provided 8Gb microsd card, I get nothing on the screen as well. Am I suppoed to have something on the hdmi output with the provided micro sd card?

Yes, you should get HDMI video with 8GB card provided by Terasic - it's supposed to boot the Linux Ubuntu with graphical interface through HDMI.

Thanks. I tried on another Tv and it worked. Back on my previous TV, it started working after I changed the HDMI cable. That's strange since this HDMI cable works with other devices but not with the DE10.
Now I have to wait to receive my usb-to-go hub and for mpattonm to build the expansions board and sell me the sdram and io card.
I tested quickly the c64 core and genesis core and I'm really impressed, it works great. Thanks for your work.

Thanks for the OPL2 test core - really excellent - also I understand that the implementation needs too many LE. Too bad.
With the test core the hdmi output is a bit more unstable and keeps "jerking"/"jittering" in certain circumstance. It is similar to the rolling we experienced with the earlier cores. So reason could be again the compilation acting up :-)

Anyway nice to use the OPL2 on the ao486 :-) Keep up the great work! :D
