Fujiology archive to be released soon

Postby lotek_style » Sun Dec 08, 2013 10:44 am

Hello Scene... as you might have already heard... or not... I'm working on a new atari demoscene archive DVD called "FUJIOLOGY ARCHIVE V1.0". Release date will be around Newyear 2014. If you have any RARE or unreleased productions lying around in your diskboxes... please send them in. Right now I an only say that the archive is already HUGE.

Great news.

Damn, I have something unreleased to share but I think it will not make it in time. :(

Thanks for your work on this.

Cheers

Looking forward to this one! What's the size of it?

That is indeed huge :-o You've put in a lot of work there.

It will be interesting to see what's inside.

Sounds awesome! Must have taken you quite some time to put this thing together. How have you organized the files? Are the file names in 8.3 format? Do you have some kind of index file with descriptions? I've seen quite a few compilations CDs and DVDs but unfortunately many of them lack a good way of exploring its contents / finding what you're looking. I know it would require some effort, but some kind of search functionality in the form of a HTML file / JavaScript or similar would be really neat and useful.

Daniel... well as you already mentioned it took A LOT of time... so the last thing I was thinking about was something like a GUI... maybe for later editions but there simply was and still is absolutely NO time to please the users with such a thing :)

Right now there is basically a huge Excel sheet:

Crewname, Production, Demozoo link, Pouet link, Atarimania Link, FILENAME (screenshot attached).

I mainly focused on demozoo here... so every prod in the DB also has a demozoo entry... the demozoo database (see other thread viewtopic.php?f=28&t=24859) will hopefully open around the same time when the DVD will be released.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Looks great! The Excel sheet is a good start and could easily be turned into CSV file or any other structured file format and serve as the source for a search/GUI application if needed. I would have gladly put together something on the PC and Atari if I would have had more free time during the upcoming Holidays.

Perhaps the Excel spreadsheet could at least be converted to something viewable on Atari (dbase III?). However it's nice that you're including an index at all so no complaints from me :D

Well im using OpenOffice atm and the file is already 7 MB in size... saving this under Excel makes it 10 MB... you need an atari with a lot of RAM and it may be very slow then :)

That's why we (I) need to write a search application for it. It would be fairly easy to write a tool for the PC parsing the file to build a smaller index file that could be bundled together with the DVD and then used by the search application on the Atari to speed up the searches and minimize memory requirements.
