Whattaheck, SoWatt and the unreleased Who Cares?

Postby troed » Sat Jun 01, 2013 2:13 pm

27th of May 1989 the Swedish copy party demo Whattaheck was released

~5th of August 1989 saw the successor, SoWatt

... but there was supposed to be a third, named "Who Cares?" (with or without question mark, I don't remember). However, I'm unable to dig up any further memories on who were supposed to compile it, if it was a party demo (and if so, which) as well as how far into a finished state it got. Was it all just a pipe dream or were there any screens actually written and sent in?

I have just finished converting Whattaheck to html5 today using the codef framework :D
just waiting for it to be published on the WAB site. There is other stuff there I have converted.

Looks like its taking a bít of time before it gets published on WAB so those who wants a sneakpreview of my conversion of Whattaheck demo can go here Whattaheck Demo
You will need browser Chrome to get 100% working with music etc.

A friend of mine works with Nick / TCB at Avalanche studios in Stockholm, and he asked about the Who Cares demo, what happened to it. Unfortunately Nick did not have any memories of such a demo.

I also remember talks of the Who Cares back then, maybe it was some other crew than TCB doing the putting together this time, hence Nick not remember anything about it.

Thanks for checking with Nick - and no I don't think it was TCB either. Since it was never released I could forgive people thinking it was SYNC ...   ... but no, not us. And also not likely Omega since they did SNYD2 at around that time.

I wouldn't have been surprised if it was NoCrew though. Let's blame them.

Cool!

I'll follow regular SYNC release schedules though, expect something around ~2040 ;)

I stumbled into a scroller with some info on the subject.

If you read in "the delirious demo", the crazy stars demo, it sais the screen was previously coded for the "Who Cares Demo" of Omega in september 1989.

WOW! Now we're not just talking about the fading memory of a bunch of old guys any longer :D Maybe it's time to ping TFE ...

Thanks a lot for digging that up!

... and here's the money shot: A "Who Cares ?" contribution request by Qwerty/Universal Coders (Aggression).

https://plus.google.com/u/0/+MichaelSch ... PXjd6Bf5n8

Incredible find by Daryl/TEX after the discussions in this thread. Apparently it was supposed by be compiled by TCB at the TCB/2 Life Crew party but for some reason passed over to UNC/Aggression by An Cool.

In European demo Vector II screen it say again that Omega did not manage to put the Who Cares-demo together by them selves.

When did Omega pass it on or did they take the last shot at putting it together?

The link mentioned above seems to be dead, so here is a new one: ftp://fujiology.untergrund.net/users/lt ... gademo.jpg.
