Re: The Obligatory 'Introduce Yourself Thread'...

Hey fellow atarists ! I am marcello from France/Austria, I am a Unix/Linux sysadmin at $WORK, and I decided to install anything who looks like unix on my ST ( Right now I have already Minix 1.5, looking forward to adding FreeMint and Linux to the collection ) Hi Marcello, welcome aboard! Re: Preparing your SD card to work with the ST & PC

I have only used hard drives with 2.06 in my Mega STe's and did not realize in 1.62 you have to highlight a drive before the option was available. I was wondering why it was always grayed out before. In 2.06 it's install devices and it's always available. Yes, a bit of a usability booboo there unti...

Re: ST Format.com

There’s now a full index of all STF game reviews – not just those with on-line content. http://www.stformat.com/games/index_all.html Great! The full games index has a (java script) search box too and you can sort by column. I think since the LGD went down there’s no other on-line index of all STF g...

Heh, just saw this now and it was pretty entertaining indeed! It felt a bit like a creationism debate... faith versus evidence, and when faith doesn't win, it moves the goalposts ;)

It's one of Patrice Mandin's excellent efforts ( http://patrice.mandin.pagesperso-orange.fr/en/perso-moteurs.html ) , the source is available to, just waiting for someone to finish it off! 8O Ah, the amazing Patrice! Re: Early games were much more ambitiously programmed no?

Of all the popular 68000 based systems, the Mega Drive probably managed the best version of SF2. Haven't played the Megadrive version, but I did give the Sharp X68000 version a go and it was really good :) The 6502-based PC Engine version also seems pretty truthful to the original game, especially ...

Re: Early games were much more ambitiously programmed no?

Indeed, the control system on standard joysticks is probably the worst thing about it (graphics aren't that bad considering the colour/ scrolling restrictions on the standard ST). Really messed up. Yes it was US Gold, it was blatantly just a cash in. There is a version of an STe demo (in grey-scale...

I'm guessing those were offers for noticeably less than the hilarious asking price of €30000 :D

Othervise it has to be the old fashion way, real movie files, like on World of Longplays. http://www.longplays.org/ And Amiga Longplays http://www.recordedamigagames.org/ The quality on these movie files is top notch and the same as to watch the real thing thanks to the awesome matroska compression...

Re: [Sinclair] - RZX movies for Atari?

Just saw this post and had been thinking something similar for a while... Do we have any input recording/playback file format for ST emulators? I haven't heard of any, but it'd be pretty amazing to have the capability of doing a TAS (see tasvideos.org for some examples, like the console emulators an...

Re: "Metroid"

I found the bug! So now it should work on Hatari and on a real machine! I was accidently writing to one of the blitter registers when I shouldn't and that caused it to crash when I removed the mainsprite from the screen at the time I load a new room when you go into a door. The player is not drawn ...

Re: "Metroid"

It krasch on Hatari if I tries to go thru a door, but if the Atari crasch on STEEM I just have to reload the save state and run again. On Hatari the whole emulater freeze and it takes along time to get it running again. It says "Hatari not responding" and so on, so it's hopeless to do any...

A bit late now, but the puzzle game sounds a lot like Block Out... not sure if there were sampled voices in the ST version, but the arcade version had some kind of sarcastic commentary by the machine between levels.

The different tones when you hit blocks and the unhurried speed (at least on level one, which I couldn't beat) make it quite relaxing - I gotta try this on my STE!
Unsurprisingly, it was not easy to play with my laptop's touchpad... :)

That's pretty extreme! I can see why a team would do that when porting old games to modern hw, but on an ST?? Is the game engine's emulator fast? :P
