Re: ICD LINK hard drive set up jumpers and help needed pleas

yes the LINK needs 5v but i thought it could be taken from the drive via a jumper

that's what i've done before on the original 50 pin drives

Re: Falcon prob: dead machine + HOT SRAM & R135 no keyboard

simbo wrote:looks like a resoviour capacitor for the codec ...vcc

interesting as the codec was fried

this cap is a 220uf, it was leaking and measured about 100uf when i tested it

could this have been the cause of the dead codec? though doesn't look like that cap has short, just leaked and lost capacitance

faulty batch of Falcon motherboards, anyone heard of this?

i was told by Bradley at Best that there was batch of Falcon motherboards that had some dodgy tracks between the layers that went bad and caused shorts/failures etc and are obviously unrepairable

but he doesn't know what revision there were

does anyone know? or heard of this problem before

not sure if you've understood my reply simbo i have found the above chips on the faulty board are dead, i HAVEN'T KILLED THEM, they were already dead so no damage has been done! so what i want to know is how can so many chips be dead? and what would have caused it? so far: codec dsp 3 x sram U44 / U...

Re: Falcon prob: dead machine + HOT SRAM & R135 no keyboard

ok so the latest

codec ic is dead (put the chip in another machine and that R135 started getting hot in that machine so switched it off quick

all GAL chips are dead - U44 / U62 / U63 / U67 / U68

so basically all the above and DSP and SRAM chips are dead (assumed dead as they were red hot)

Re: falcon problem: no reset & no sound

repaired!

well it seems it was the codec chip

basically i took it out (came out easy and put it back in, think a previous owner had removed it) now all sound works and so does reset!!
