Re: 68040 40Mhz Upgrade on Milan

I had a look at the 060 adapter in my Milan. Hard to read but the ic is a 74F157AD.

There seems to be quite a few "versions" in the SO16 package.

Re: Clock speed switch on Milan

There is one odd thing about the "turbo" switch, I had to restart after about an hour and the boot said 58MHz. When I rebooted from cold the following day it was back to 60MHz but again once warm it said 58MHz. I wonder if the the extra cable length is causing clock frequency drift or high...

Re: Clock speed switch on Milan

I did try PC Ditto [edit: it was SoftPC not PC Ditto] about 20 years ago but never got it working.

Someone did release another PC emulator a couple of years ago. It worked but the key mapping was wrong so I had no idea what I was typing.

Re: Clock speed switch on Milan

I think the suggestion was to replace an ic with the faster 74FTC157 version. If you can find one.

Re: Clock speed switch on Milan

Re: Milan ATI

It could be compressed but 2:1 might be a bit much.

It did occur to me that I have never tested this card in a PC so I am assuming it works at all.

Re: Milan ATI

With my Milan in 60MHz I gave the Radeon card another go but after 5 minutes no screen display and the monitor says there is no input. :-(

I assume from this that the Radeon is not starting.

Re: Clock speed switch on Milan

I got the 12" ribbon cable, fitted it and jumpered the ends to see how the Milan reacted. It worked so I added a bit of Vero board, some dodgy soldering and a dpdt switch. Now I can set it to 30/60 MHz most of the time and easily switch to 25/50 before booting to do scanning. Now I just need to...

Re: VISION 4.1a is out!

Hi Peter, for infill, I think it is a limitation of the v_contourfill API which may even crash on some VDI because of last parameter set to -1 For button slow to respond, I did not see a difference with other applications; could you elaborate? If I click on a Button (OK) as I normally would, nothin...

Re: rsync in SpareMINT

This is a known issue with rsync on mint. I get the feeling it has completed the job, it just never exits. That's correct. Alan Hourihane sent me a fixed binary years ago where this problem was solved, but it doesn't look like the patch has been distributed. The SpareMiNT rsync is still non-functio...

Re: VISION 4.1a is out!

I have tried Vision before on the Milan with Minat/XaAES and it had issues. I just tried the new release.

1. The infill painting doesn't work, it just adds a single pixel horizontal line.
2. The button is dialogue boxes are a bit slow to respond, requiring a press and hold to get them to work.

Re: Clock speed switch on Milan

I plan to use a 6-pin IDC plug and ribbon cable a bit like this http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/idc-ribbon-cable-12

What I might do is leave the jumper on pin 1 and put the cable on pins 2 and 3

One switch position will connect pins 2 and the other will connect pins 3.

Re: Clock speed switch on Milan

I had a look in my junk box and found a DPDT slide switch that might fit in the spare D Connector slot in the case.

It will need about 8-10 inches of wire to reach the jumpers. Would this be too long ?

Clock speed switch on Milan

Inside the Milan there are jumpers to set the clock speed. Mine is set to 25MHz. I don't use 30MHz because of the scsi scanner. It would nice to be able to quickly switch to 30 when I'm not using the scanner. Could a switch be added so that it can be easily changed before booting ? For 25MHz, jumper...

It also has another issue with timestamps and summertime. I am hoping some fixes in the mint developers pipeline will help.

Re: STfm rebooted

I swapped the disc in the EZ Flyer for the "boot" one instead of the one labelled "backup" and it booted into TOS2.

The display has some vertical bands as well as the flickering.

Is this bad capacitors ?

Re: STfm rebooted

I put the T board boot floppy in and it booted to TOS2 and the hard drive was detected and seems to be intact. :D 4Mb of RAM is working and plugging the mouse a few times has removed some oxidisation from the pins so it is working more reliably. The screen is still flickering badly and is blurred. I...

Re: STfm rebooted

Some contact cleaner lubricant seems to have fixed the reset button.

One of the clips on the simm adapter has broken so I will glue the simm in with a small spot of hot melt glue. Not my favourite but it sets fast and can be removed if needed.

STfm rebooted

I just turned on my ST for the first time since about 2000. It is plugged into a scart connector on my modern tv. First suprise, it flashed blue and white and then booted and gives a desktop picture. It's a bit shakey, the cable is very old. The mouse needed a twist of the wire but works. Reset butt...

Re: New TT + FALCON/ST PC-like case.

Would it be possible to have an almost plain back with just the square holes cut and supply templates for ST/STE/Falcon allowing people to drill the holes that they need ?

It might make the project cheaper and simpler.
