Yes, this. After the bugs are fixed, having a version with no frame buffer would be the next important milestone IMO.

Re: Occasionally can't get OSD after switching cores

I do have a heatsink though. Cool! Once you install a fan the problem will most likely disappear. Even a small but constant air flow that removes the accumulated heat from the heat sink is usually enough to keep the FPGA cool and prevent stability issues. Let us know whether the fan resolved the is...

Re: Occasionally can't get OSD after switching cores

Any ideas what could be happening here? Apology if I'm stating the obvious - do you have a heat sink and active cooling on your MiSTer (you did not mention it in your description)? Reading your previous post about a fan plate it appears to me you might run MiSTer without it. If that's the case, ple...

Re: Occasionally can't get OSD after switching cores

There is no known workaround/fix for this. The usage of FPGA chip in MiSTer project reach the level where almost NO technical information exist. Basically, by Altera design FPGA should be uploaded in bootloader at start and never change till power off. Reloading the cores on the fly is not intended...

Re: Scaler

Part of the motivation for using a custom scaler: https://twitter.com/RetroRGB/status/1058093654554894336 According to RetroRGB: "I did some MiSTer lag tests. In it's current state, the MiSTer's HDMI output ads about 2 frames of lag. Future community-built scalers can significantly lower this t...

Re: Occasionally can't get OSD after switching cores

It's unclear from your description if nothing is displayed or just OSD not displayed while core works fine. Probably you are describing the problem existing from the day 1: After several cores DDR3 bridge gets screwed and requires a cold reboot. Nothing is displayed. As I mentioned, this occurs aft...

Occasionally can't get OSD after switching cores

Since updating to the newest MiSTer binary a couple days (and also updating the Genesis core), I've noticed that occasionally when I switch cores I can't get the OSD to come up at all. The sequence will be something like: - Load Genesis core, bring up OSD and load rom, play for awhile - Switch to TG...

Re: Fan plate for those without IO boards

I agree, this is a great idea. I was considering purchasing a IO PCB for this purpose. Now if only I had access to a 3D printer... I just got a quote from 3D Hubs for ~$22 ($13 of which is shipping), which seems pretty high.

Re: Genesis Core

So with the Mega Sg coming out soon from Analogue can we presume that that system wont be anymore compatible than the work being carried out on MiSTer currently, or will they have more in-depth research that the MiSter team have discoverer up to this point? There's no way to know until release, but...

Whomever can help me please PM me.

Thanks.

If you're only interested in NES with HDMI there's no need for an I/O board

Re: MISTer GUI/OS Feature Requests / Bugs

I know these are just repeats of previous requests, but I'll put them in this request thread too :D The two OSD GUI improvements that I think would be make the biggest impact on user experience are: 1. Always use the same button (user assignable presumably) for "Ok" across OSDs for differe...

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

Are you planning on releasing the source code for the 68k so that other projects can benefit ? I do, but it won't be today. I'd like to wait a few days, just in case the public release exposes any possible bugs in the 68K core. I also need to think and decide which open source license to use. I'm n...

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

Out of curiosity - did you use the designs recently uncovered here: http://www.chzsoft.de/asic-web/ in order to replicate cycle perfect chips? Not really. I made my own reverse engineering that included chips decap long before. Also, unfortunately, the archive includes schematics for a single chip ...

Re: Menu select button changes between cores

To borrow somebody else's wording: OK is consistently the left button, and BACK is consistently the right button This should map across consoles that share a controller format, eg NES, genesis, tg16, etc pretty consistently So in the case of genesis "A" should be "OK" and "B...

Re: Menu select button changes between cores

The problem is that in many games (such as Super Mario Bros) when you reverse the buttons it's very difficult to play (at least for me). Instinctively, the left button is fire/run, and the right button is jump. It's just muscle memory at this point

Re: Menu select button changes between cores

It is pretty much consistent: first button is select, second is cancel/back. After almost 2 years of MiSTer existence i didn't find any inconvenience. So what you're saying is the only way to have a consistent select button in the OSD is to map the gameplay buttons incorrectly for certain cores (ie...
