Re: Scaler

From the scaler perspective, short latency is easy. I've tested it (with my oscilloscope ...). The problem, AFAIU, is matching clock frequencies, which can be different between cores and between screens. I realize this might go against the design goals for MiSTer, but maybe there could be an experi...

Re: Scaler

I don't want to distract from the excellent progress that's being made towards switching to the new scaler, but here are a few findings that hopefully justify further attempts to get the low lag option working in the future. Mike Tyson's Punch Out is often used as an example of needing low lag, and ...

Re: Genesis Core

I just tried prior versions of the Genesis core (11/25, 11/18, and 11/16) and did observe some white flashes on Aladdin in all three, though perhaps to less of an extent. I didn't try rolling back my MiSTer binary though.

Re: Genesis Core

New bug in Aladdin with latest core: There's a quick series of full screen white flashes that occasionally happen. It happened ~3 times each time I played the first stage. It seems to occur when using the sword attack on an enemy, but only sometimes. Try playing through the entire first stage using ...

Re: Save States for the cores

Save states are a lot more difficult to implement within an FPGA/HW based design, but it has been done in a number of cases: Everdrive N8, Mega Everdrive X7, Master Everdrive X7, Everdrive GB X7, and (ignoring sound issues) SD2SNES But I wouldn't expect anybody to work on this for the MiSTer anytime...

Re: MiSTer NES Core

Why do some games not always start the first time you load them? For example Ball**n Fight (USA). It has a blackscreen in 80% of the cases after selecting the rom. Reset never helps. But every now or then the title screen shows up and it runs perfectly!! It reminds me of a real NES where you blew i...

Re: SMS core

Not sure if it's a regression or not, but with the latest SMS core and mister binary I noticed what I guess is a sprite layering issue. In Ghouls N Ghosts on the first stage, the blades that drop down are drawn behind the two wood posts instead of in front of them. Looks very odd :D This is how they...

Re: SD card utility on Win 7

Just tried using the provided disk image but after my 64GB card was burned it only shows 4GB of total space. Not sure how it should be expanded to the full size now... what you expect from image? It always will report the same size after copying to disk. That's why there is a special SD card instal...

Re: SD card utility on Win 7

Another way is to ask somebody to do the installation procedure for you on his/her machine, then dump the SD card into an image and uploads it to a place where you can download it. You will download it, unpack it and then use either WinDiskImager or Etcher (both win tools) or use plain 'dd' command...

Nice work! Does that mean you've integrated ijor's 680X0 from the Atari ST or were you able to solve a different way ?

Many people jump from modern consoles and windows FPS games where low lag is key to win. So they jump to retro consoles and computers with primitive graphics where term lag wasn't exist as there was no such quick movements. People don't understand that 20 years old consoles checked the gamepad only...

Re: SD card utility on Win 7

Utility is for exactly Windows 10 64bit. It's not supposed to be working on Win7 due to big difference in low-level API to access raw disks. Even in Windows 10 this API got several updates from M$ and required update the utility to make it work again. From the READEME (https://github.com/MiSTer-dev...

You can immediately delete option 2. No one will slowdown or speedup the systems in favor of matched frame rate. And it's not always can be achieved.
