Re: Hextracker (updated to 0.844 + BPM preview)

This procedure just waits for the vertical blank Thanks. It seems that calculating this register value on reads (like ST/STE/TT code does) is TODO in Hatari's Falcon/Videl emulation for some reason, it just returns value last written to this register by emulated code. I mailed hatari-devel about th...

Nice. Which distro are you using on the N900 - archlinux as well? No, the Maemo Linux distribution which is pre-installed on these Nokia phones (I was involved in Maemo development). I've uploaded the Hatari package to Maemo repositories: http://maemo.org/packages/view/hatari/ In case you want to t...

Ok, I gave it the --trace gemdos and go the following: http://pastebin.com/vj7Ainwe Btw, TOS image I'm using is tos492.img I don't have that version of TOS and I'm not sure whether anytbody's tested autostarting with that TOS version. Latest Hextracker v0.844 doesn't start up under Hatari Falcon emulation either (even when using normal speed). Is Hextracker supposed to work on real Falcon?

Re: Hextracker (updated to 0.844 + BPM preview)

Yes, its a 68030 running at 40mhz, with a 40mhz 68882. I tried Hextracker v0.837 from 2011 with Hatari using following options: hatari --tos etos512k.img --machine st --cpulevel 3 --cpuclock 32 --fpu-type 68882 ./hext837.prg And at least that worked fine. (Hatari doesn't support 40Mhz, only 8MHz mu...

Ok, I tried this with Hatari 1.6.2-windows. I did the following: hatari_falcon --dsp emu -c hatarif.cfg "e:\Steem\AtariData\d\falcon.ext\games\TowersII\towerii.prg" It did not work. I got the Atari logo for a minute, then it went to GEM, got a quick glimps of some icons, and then all I ha...

I'm trying to use the serial port in Hatari under Windows XP. But how I have to enter the device name? I tried COM1 or COM1: directly in the config file but it didn't work. [RS232] bEnableRS232 = TRUE szOutFileName = COM1 szInFileName = COM1 These need to be (special) files that actually exist on t...

Re: Auto Programming

You can just give the program file name to Hatari and it runs it with program's directory used and C:\ root. Most newer programs work fine with that. This of course assumes that program doesn't have paths hard-coded to A:\, but if it's a game, you may find a version that's patched to be HD compatibl...

Re: Best "GCC" compiler for Atari ST?

The int is 16 or 32bit shouldn't matter. Good C programmers use stdint.h or an equivalent where they pick types with a welldefined size. There's a *lot* of existing code that doesn't care that much about int size, but still assumes them to be at least 32-bits. While I've written even this year code...

Re: Hatari zooming / full-screen

I tried your suggestion, and it didn't work at first. But then in addition to setting 800x600, I also unchecked "Show Borders." Hatari's max size configuration defaults to zoomed ST screen with maximum borders, which I think is 832x576. There's obviously no such video mode. So Hatari ask ...

I posted some profiling results of disk info functionality on an *empty* 1.44MB HD floppy image: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=30482407 On Hatari emulated ST with --fastfdc off, even getting info on that sized empy floppy image takes 4-5s from EmuTOS. TOS v1.4 takes about 3 s...

Re: Best "GCC" compiler for Atari ST?

VBCC does optimizations, but for higher levels even 14MB of RAM isn't always enough. But I've found that even old GCC 2.x still produces faster code than VBCC... So if source compatibility, performance and productivity are important, use the cross-compiler. E.g. native GCC 2.x RPM packages from Spa...

Re: Best

If 16-bit ints and no floating point without FPU is OK, I would recommend AHCC AHCC has 32 bit ints too. This is a compiler option. Last time I tried it, it wasn't mature enough for use and especially the situation with 16-bit vs. 32-bit headers is a complete mess (Henk doesn't want to touch them, ...

Re: The RESET instruction on Falcons

Magic is certainly written in big part in ASM. What is something what I expect from good Atari ST, Falcon SW. Those machines are just not enough fast for C. I think that even in case of TOS , up to 1.04 they needed to do many in ASM not only because speed, but because limited ROM size (192KB). You ...

Setting up the system can also be done with 68k-binaries, later on these can be replaced with Coldfire-versions. If you want/need such a setup, have a FireBee and the skills there is no reason to wait for ColdFire binaries. I've understood that m68k binaries don't work with EmuTOS? (Only with FireT...

I think that best way to make EmuTOS more popular is better Desktop. Improving speed may come by time. Yes, currently it's quite awkward to use. My own pet peeve is that it has large amount of file types one can assign to different apps, but it cannot itself show files and one cannot assign a gener...

Has anyone actually compared the code generation of the various 68k compilers to see how they differ? In terms of both performance and size (most compilers let you optimize for one or the other, including AHCC and GCC - and probably VBCC also). The standard library affect the code size much more th...
