yes, you right, under plain TOS IDE should be better choice,
but under Magic I tend to ACSI - hddriver has option 'background dma' and you can recover unused CPU power from disk driver

No direct IDE-RAM transfer is possible (without some extra, complexer hardware, in fact some DMA system) You can use Blitter as DMA channel. In this case you can copy data from/to IDE faster - 2MB/s or you can write IDE sectors with constant value at 4MB/s (e.g clear sectors). Big advantage of the ...

ACSI and SCSI are based on SASI - 6 byte commands were directly implemented in Atari.

SCSI was standardized in 1986 - 2 years after ACSI, and SASI was renamed to SCSI level 1.

IMO Falcon has 'Sparrow SCSI' - that is SCSI commands send through ACSI registers.

True, but the FPU will still only run at 16MHz, won't it? No, MC6888x is an asynchronous device and can you can overclock the only FPU. E.g. Falcon with CPU 16MHz and FPU 50Mhz at the same time. MC6888x is overclocking friendly: ... FPU 68882 25MHz PLCC (33 MHz tested) FPU 68882 33MHz PLCC (40 MHz ...

I disagree with you, sorry.
You can have plain Falcon with 16Mhz CPU and 50MHz FPU.

You should talk with Ppera or Jookie, they made much better HDDinterface for ST.

Or to make a "compression" plugin for the Total Commander for accessing the Atari partitions - you could then open the Atari Image in TC like you can open, browse, copy and delete directories and files inside of .zip file... I've created little TC plugin: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewto...

The strange thing for me is still why did they choose these Sound DMA hardware frequencies that had nothing to do with the common Amiga and PC frequencies at the time. May be Sound DMA hardware frequencies depend on main clock? e.g 50066 * 160 gives 8010560 cycles ~= 8MHz. Could someone check it?

I do not remember the access time limit for the memory used for the ST as well as i do not know how and how long it takes for the MMU to perform the memory refresh cycle. MMU needs 250ns (2 CPU cycles) for each RAM access. While video is active, and for each NOP, 250ns are allocated to the CPU and ...

.ST browser - plugin for Total Commander

I've created little plugin for Total Commander. It's name is 'Juliet'. It's an early version and it can only extract/view files from ST image. I'm thinking about adding MSA and DIM support in next release. Please try 'Juliet' and give me your feedback. -2006-10-26- I've attached new version of Julie...

I found the full answer on two completely unrelated topics. One is how the Discovery Cartridge works. As many people know, the DC is not exactly a ROM cartridge, it has a custom ASIC with a low level floppy controller. Back on the old days I found that the DC performs a small piece of code right fr...
