Re: Manual for Lattice C

Someone a whie back gave me a photocopied 5.5 manual (1500 pages... imagine the work!). But OTOH, throwing it into an office copier and have it PDF the whole enhilada won't take much effort from my part. Is there any interest? As it can be easily scanned and copied then I would say do it and publis...

Re: Recommended accelerator options for ST

Looks like STE has the better speed boost available (32MHz vs 16MHz for the STFM and Mega ST) - do you know the reason for that? I’m also guessing that these are just faster clocked 68000s rather than a CPU upgrade like the 68030? With this being the case, is something like https://retro.7-bit.pl/?...

Re: Recommended accelerator options for ST

There are 020 accelerators that kick around, but they aren't that common. 030's accelerators are rarer than rocking horse doo doo. I'm not sure why Exxos managed to get more out of the STe, there are a few threads on the subject and he has a forum on his website that explains it. I think he is work...

Re: Recommended accelerator options for ST

Well, the best accelerators for ST/STE are the old classic ones, with cache. Like ICD's AdSpeed and the Mega STE.

Without cache, memory access is not improved at all, which basically is like replacing your car engine with a faster one, while locking your gearbox down to three gears.

Re: Possible to choose which FPU?

No, it's not possible. The reason is that the CPU/FPU combo with 020/030 and 6888x is essentially a single CPU to the system, just as the 68060. Since these are not designed to work in tandem, or in a multiprocessor system, only one can run at any given time, and they have no means to access eachoth...

Yeah, sadly shipping stuff from sweden is ridicilously expensive, it's actually cheaper to ship from germany to sweden than it is to ship within sweden... go figure.. anyway, check this one out... https://www.tradera.com/item/340857/310842238/atari-520st From description/pictures it's just a bare ST...

Re: Wanted: 520 STM PAL

Just checking on postage prices from sweden I see the postage is likely to be quite high. 8kg is about $100 USD, as a rule of thumb it seems the rate is about $12/kg or roughly $6/lbs... Weighing the 520ST I got here shows about 2.7kg and the PSU 1.7kg. Checking on the local market now I see a possi...

Re: Wanted: 520 STM PAL

I love the old 520ST model, and I have a couple. In many ways it's my favourite model. They are often found fairly cheap over here, going for $50 or even less without drive. I am fairly certain the PSU is not universal, atleast the one I just checked is not. and it is quite heavy. As for PAL and wit...

Re: Reset button not working on STF

The reset button on the Atari is, tbh, a very crude construction. From your desription I'd say oxidization s the culprit. How has it been stored? Edit: Actually, it could also be a broken pin. the construct has L-shaped pins to the mobo, and you can easily break one and the button itself would still...

I will keep going through my older stuff, and if I find the source of my program I'll post it here. Maybe some fun can be had from ST/STE/TT aswell. Great idea :D Here's the code that I wrote to scan for hardware registers in the falcon. Hve fun with it! Oh, did anyonefigure out what $ffffff82 is/d...

Re: Funky 1024 STE

Seems like DMA problems. Exxos has researched this topic extensively. There are numerous threads about it. tl;dr swapping the CPU for a HCMOS version will likely do the trick. (alternatives expensive/cumbersome). You can likely get a MC68HC000 cpu off ebay or similar platform for less than $10, and ...

Re: AMIGA: MIST vs Pi3 vs Vampire/real Amiga (4000?)

I don't see what the problem really is. If a particular core or clone becomes "too big" for the general clone forum, we'll put it in it's own sub-forum. But until that happens all related subjects are more than welcome to discussed here. Particular cores/clones do tend to be discussed in w...

On the contrary, it's of great interest. I'm just suggesting another solution for the controller. Reusing the original controller is a missed opportunity IMO. Unless you plan on creating a mouse replacement as well of course. Btw I don't suggest to connect a USB keyboard to the ST. I suggest suppor...

Troed is still developing the software in that video, which is really tricky* and hijacks a bunch of TOS stuff :P It's my intention to have a shortlist of apps which work as they should, and hopefully then continue expanding. Ok, so just saw the YAART memory test application. Ran it on my STe and after maybe an hour, it bombed with 4 bombs. Pic in case it helps: https://s12.postimg.org/rrk61xbpp/IMG_1459.jpg So memory problem? Or could this still point to something else? I'm not so sure this indicates a memory problem. ...

Re: 520ST External Floppy only

Find the fault first. Trying to construct something new working out of something broken and you don't even know what's broken is likely just going to take an even longer time.

It's only 14 pins on the floppy cable. Start by checking it with a multimeter. And then do the same with the connector.

Re: 520ST External Floppy only

SF354 is singlesided, another potential problem with gotek, I am not sure it routes side select to the drive...

I still suspect a faulty cable or connector though, even if singlesided the drive should be recognised.

Holding down alt during boot should bypass all autofolder programs, or rename the files to PRX instead of PRG in the autofolder.
