(sold): MiST (Lotharek) in mint condition - Toronto Ontario area

I've got a mint condition barely used (3-4 times) MiST; it works perfectly. They sell for 220eur or about $250 USD. Ideally sell to a Canadian since I've already eaten the shippig and exchange rate and import duty, so might as well pass the savings onto the next guy :) Make me a fair offer. Photos: ...

Re: I finally have a TT!

Sexy work :) But it all begs the question.. you getting down to some TOS coding, or Cubase, or .. just screwing around? :) After all this, I'm curious what will come out of it :)

Re: MiST VGA Compatibility

yeah, I need to read more .. the looking into it I did a year or two back suggested most guys just didn't want to have RAM framebuffer either for cost or latency issues, and wanted to do live translation .. which caused a lot of artifacting and other issues. *Shrug* I've got a few other projects on ...

Re: For Sale: Atari ST Book

Usually theres sniping in at the end too, so it may go higher; but even now not a bad price .. about typical at 800 ukpounds. I've seen them go for a bit less or a bit more, or double on crazy ones :)

Good luck Dal .. do you have two, that you can let one go?!

Re: I finally have a TT!

Nice :) Make some up clos screenies of ST-low and TT-high .. does it really turn out crystal clear on there? I'm considering modding an STFM to have UltraSatan and HxC right inside the case, and maybe a gbs-8220 if I can fit in there somewhere (not likely, but you never know.) I've got to clean the ...

Re: MiST VGA Compatibility

But it's not just a pass-through... so it's not that simple. If you want to "clean" the signal to a solid 50hz or 60hz, either you change the source core to run at just the right speed or you add a framebuffer to the output. For the latter, you need memory to store the image and read it b...

Re: MiST VGA Compatibility

I found the GBS-8220 itself to fiddly, but 'more or less' does the job; the MiST doesn't work on 'any' of my TVs without assistance (sigh), so it needs the GBS-8220 to work 'at all', which is a shame. The GBS-8220 itself tends to have the issues noted above.. centering, or wrapping, or others. So so...

Re: MiST VGA Compatibility

I keep wondering if it would be worth it to make a 'VGA signal cleaner'; a general purpose upscaler has a lot to do .. some of them handle audio splitting or merging, and certainly have to handle a varied set of resolutions (often unclean), from NTSC and PAL, etc. But I've found a few upscalers bare...

Re: Convert UK STFM to North America

If you've got an HxC in there, and kept the floppy ... is your HxC set to A: and you put the hard-floppy as B:? (I forget, does the STFM motherboard have a header for drive B, or you can chain the cable?) .. or did you just leave the floppy physically in place, but disconnected?

Re: Convert UK STFM to North America

Its good to know you got it in there, and keeping the floppy; its cleverly placed! .. but you know, it is satisfying to toggle a floppy in and out of the drive :) As someone whose written emus, and who collects arcade machines and retro gear .. we know that tactile and 'feel' can mean everything. So...

Re: Convert UK STFM to North America

You know, it would be nice to cram in.. - minus the PSU - minus the floppy drive + add picoPSU + add hxc floppy emu -> out through roof grill ? (see the lcd..) .. maybe take off the hxc casing + add ultrasatan hdd emu -> outside where floppy was (make a new face plate) + gelbon gbs-8220 upscaler .. ...

Re: For Sale: Atari ST Book

leech -- there is the STacy (rare) and the ST Book (isanely rare). The STacy had a few models (Stacy 1 through Stacy 4 with 4MB of RAM), was basicly a portable STFM, with the built in mono monitor. I don't think it had anything from the STE line ... STacy is 1989 give or take; the STE and Mega's are...

Re: For Sale: Atari ST Book

The display is pretty dim too - no backlight IIRC. They had to cut corners to get it so light and teeny (contrast to the STacy, which is like carrying a case of beer around :) I have often thought about putting a front or backlight onto mine though. I've never thought about whethor I could find a ne...

Re: For Sale: Atari ST Book

The TOS has a built in ramdisk (P: .. I think). Then you use a similar tool on an ST and do a null modem between; or was it parallel? Old memories :)

I found it easier to just do something with the CF based hdd and hang a cable out :0

Re: Convert UK STFM to North America

Got a couple of packages in the post today, one of which was the 'bag of parts UK STFM'; really, it came disassembled in a jumble .. no screws, in a huge box, and the entire thign had come apart inside. Nasty. But, as it was sold 'as is, unknown', what the hell right? But get this .. I just shoved i...

Re: For Sale: Atari ST Book

Nice, with box and cables and battery packs too :)

The hardest part is moving files back and forth, and with such a rare beast, you just can't mod the casing .. it'd be wrong :O Using a CF-card on the IDE inside is the best thing ever :)

Re: Convert UK STFM to North America

theres a lot of tools to do it; a lot of the packed menu disks has it as well. Atari should have had a boot option in the firmware.. hold down alt-while-power-on or something to do it :)

Re: Convert UK STFM to North America

Thanks joska, for the precision! Keyboard difference.. adding the Pound symbol for currency? I wonder if the actual layout is much different .. perhaps a different location for " .. no worry though. Yeah, I'll more than likely try to source a pico psu or other; IIRC, the space in the case isn't...

Re: Convert UK STFM to North America

Refresh is determined by TOS? huh, who knew :) I guess that makes sense since you could change the refresh rate dynamically with code. That at least applies to monitor .. not sure about the actual FM output. I don't know a darned thing about PAL, but I should go do some reading. I did build a circui...

Convert UK STFM to North America

Just ordered a 'needs repair' 'for parts' ST from someone in the UK for next to nothing. I'm wondering what actual hardware differences will be in there compared to a typical NA STFM? - stepdown from 240V to ST power (+-12V, +5V) ibstead of stepdown from 120V - the modulator would be PAL 50hz not NT...

Re: I finally have a TT!

Backing it up would be excellent; I forget which hard disk driver it is (probably hddriver), so you should get it backed up in case you need it again, or for evidence (hddriver still supported etc.) Its also a pretty solid disk, with lots of installed and working apps .. be good for archive sake to ...
