Re: Atari STE only boot in High Res

I agree! I will order a new chip if i found a seller. Meanwhile, i had soldered u405 pin 5 to u405 pin 7 to force the ST to boot in low res, works well. Thanks for your help, i had learned a bit about how our atari detect monitors and auto set their resolution properly. I will update this thread if ...

Re: Atari STE only boot in High Res

Ok, With a cutter i cut the trace between video pin 4 and pin 2 and 6 of the u405. pin 2 and 6 has continuity with GND. Pin Video 4 has not. I cutted the link between pin 6 and 2. Pin 2 has continuity with GND, Not 6. Well, i had cutted deeper and always pin2 connected to GND. I i checked the schema...

Re: Atari STE only boot in High Res

Good news here, I've tested to connect pin 5 (5v) to pin 7 and successfully boot in low resolution ( Gool ol' green desktop ). So two options : - Cut the trace to see where it is connected to GND - remove the U405 an change it ( tzok says 1.3v on ttl is a bad chip... ) What's the best? Joska, the do...

Re: Atari STE only boot in High Res

Some measurement with monitor unplugged :

U405:
Pin 1 = 5.02 v dc
Pin 2 = 0v
Pin 3 = 0.924 v
pin 4 = 1,374 v
pin 5 = 5,02 v
pin 6 = 0v
pin 7 = 191 mV
pin8 = 0v

So clearly i got no 5V on pin 7.

Could i solder a wire between pin 1 and 7 to force the ST to go in low mode?

Re: Atari STE only boot in High Res

Here's the backside of the u405 area. I tested pin4 of the video connector by inserting a wire in it. I got continuity between video pin4 and u405 pin 2 and 6 and ground. Resistance between video pin4 and ground is about 1,6 Ohm. https://imgur.com/eLBQVe9.jpg If no one ha other idea, i think i will ...

Re: Atari STE only boot in High Res

When pin 4 on the monitor socket is grounded, TOS use monochrome mode. If it's not grounded, TOS will only allow colour modes. Disconnect the monitor, and see if there's continuity between U405 pin 6 and ground. If there is, there's either a problem with U405 or the monitor socket. PIN 6 is grounde...

Re: Atari STE only boot in High Res

On your last photo you see resistor R215. Check the resistor's value. It should be in the 4.7K range. Then check if the resistor's right pin has continuity to U209 (The 74LS86 just above it) pin 12. The trace is on the top and visible on your photo. Come back here with results. Arne, here are the r...

Re: Atari STE only boot in High Res

Hello Arne,
Thanks for the reply.

I've got an iron soldier, a multi-meter and have moderate skills with them.
I can hardly read the STE schematics...seems very complicated to me to understand.

Well, you got me, i'm an hobbyist! ;)

Is this resolution problem frequent on the STe range?

Atari STE only boot in High Res

Hello Hardware Gurus, I recently bought to a musician an Atari STE with an SM 124 monitor. Seems to be working fine, but when i go back home i plugged it on my low res monitor and... White screen, then black screen. Plugged it back to the sm124, worked fine. So this one just boot in high res! I test...

The strange atari motherboard game

Hello, I've found this strange motherboard. It think it is a 1040 stf. The first who identify the mod is the winner... i had no clue about what is the mod installed on it. https://i.imgur.com/aa2Vuvv.jpg When i found it, it had no shifter installed, so i added one. It gave me a white screen when boo...

Too OLD to CODE?

Hi, We had just released a new simple Atari STe demo at VIP 2019 in Thoissey. You could check it on Pouet, if you want so : https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=81679 It was a great party with a lot of free B. That was fun to see all those demoscene people drunk, but active. Also, first irl meeting ...

Hi all, Is it possible to implement some kind of floppy drive boot selector in CE ? Re: Floppy Disk Readers fails at sectors 81 & 82

Thanks you for you answer.
The Atari Diagnostic Cartdridge call this the " Protected Sectors test".

OK i should consider those FDR as valid ones even if they fails this test.

So, nothin to do, fine for me. Thanks.... Yellow_Hot_Colorz_PDT_12

Floppy Disk Readers fails at sectors 81 & 82

Hi all, I just bought a nice diagnostic cartdridge and started to check and fix my pile of more or less broken ST/e. I was suprised to see that some of the original floppy disk readers ( ref: SONY- MP-F11W-U0 ) triggered an error when they had to format, read and write sector 81 & 82. They works...

Re: Vasm and directory separator

Seems i found a workaround. I define _WIN32 option in the COPTS part of the Makefile then compile. Under Linux relative path with backward or forward slashes separator are now considered as valid ones. Perhaps it may work under OSX as well. I had tested the last version (1.7g) with several sources w...
