Re: CosmosEx - new device for your Atari ST

Just got an email from Jookie stating he will have to close down his webshop for a while. I have to close the business license (self-employment) by the end of this month, so I guess the last order can be made on 29.6.2017, and then the shop will be closed down. If I wouldn't close it at the end of ...

Re: Which direction retro computing goes ?

That's irrelevant. People are not using 8-bits because they're so good at watching movies on Netflix with, but because of the qualities of the 8-bit machine itself. That will not change in the future. I'm quite sure that in the future it will be a lot easier to keep an 80's computer running than to...

Re: Which direction retro computing goes ?

I had to give up my ST when I moved to the other side of the planet - I regret having to, but had no choice really. I carried my Falcon in a luggage when I got it from US. Back in those time, there were no computer restrictions on airplane.... come to think of it there were no (or few) laptops in t...

Re: Which direction retro computing goes ?

Retrocomputing will die with us, it is my opinion. I agree with that. 20 years from today, there will be new technology that even 5 years old phones cannot cope with let alone a 50 yr old computer. At work, a 2 yr old notebook has difficulty connecting to a new projector because of the advances in ...

Re: A good & working net browser?

What is needed is actually a faster network stack.
This I saw while developing the google maps application, the graphics conversion & rendering is much faster than downloading the map.

If you need to write a doc or spreadsheet, you can also do the same with a VNC via google docs.

Re: Which direction retro computing goes ?

Our kids don't care. We don't know that yet. Look at the vintage car/motorcycle community. There's a huge amount of pre-war vehicles kept alive by people who was not even born when these were made. We don't know if something like that will happen with computers, but as computers are most likely her...

Re: Which direction retro computing goes ?

Of course. But, it's also "our" generation that grew up with this platform that's even interested at all. Time is working against us. Our kids don't care. Very true. My guess is that after us, there will be no more "retro users" except may be computer historian just looking at s...

Re: FreeMint on Mist: OK for GEM, stuck for Unix

Are you using the last dev version or the stable release? I can always open many bash, with the $home as /root and it shows on the prompt as so. cat of any /etc files works without any errors. I have not tried on the new dev release... it's on my FB. But I just moved my Falc out last week so the FB ...

Don't own a Dung so I am not sure how the environment is like, especially for the SD part. D: is formatted as ext2 drive. Other funny thing, it seems the ext2 access is single process exclusive. I can open a shell (sh or tcsh), but if I try to launch a second one I got the following error pid 7 (des...

Re: Ethernat Toast?

Well I find Mint to be very flakey when it comes to networking. At the moment my netusbee/mint config has stopped working too, totally random. Last night it was working, this morning it's not. I have no explanation. I disagree. I think most of the issues is the hardware. The hardware retrofits basi...
