Nostalgia Nerd - Atari Falcon video

Hi chaps,

Just been notified that the Nostalgia Nerd is releasing a video about the Atari Falcon at 9pm UK time if anyone is interested:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBTXGgb__y

His videos are normally pretty good and generally historically accurate

Re: RARE VINTAGE ATARI 800 COMPUTER SYSTEM (MINT)

All of their prices are insane. There's also a breadbin C64 for £250 + p&p.

Just price gouging while retro computing is at an all time high.

If people pay it then more fool them.

Re: Beginning of very long journey

Might be completely out of scope for this project but would it be a serious amount of work to remove the proprietary memory interface and replace with SIMM sockets?

Re: How not to use an Amiga

Not something I personally like to see, waste of hardware. But I doubt this was a 'targeted Amiga terrorist attack'

Probably someone goofing around and happened to have an old broken Amiga in his loft, from the looks of the video it wasn't the only think they'd destroyed that day.

Re: Geneva and NeoDesk 4 Released as Donationware

Great news and huge thanks to Dan for taking the time and making the effort to get this released.

With Magic being closed source and MINT being a little resource hungry for 16-bit machines, Geneva with its source code could mean exciting times for ST owners.

Porting and enhancing it to make it more than a tech demo : it is the goal  At least the eerie forest level, as it is the 'only-my-amoeba-with-its-gpu[laughters]-and-zillions-of-DMAs-I-am-not-even-able-to-tell-U-how-it-works-can-do-it[SIGHS]' bit that really always made me roll on the floor l...

Re: Porting SOTB to the Falcon

OK I get why as a technical demonstration this would be a cool thing to do. But honestly, the game is utter dog crap! Why not save yourself the effort and maybe only port the main part of SOTB as a proof of concept and leave it at that? You'll prove your point and save yourself any additional effort...

You can buy IDE flash devices:-

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/ide-flash-module

Just a quick eBay search, no cable involved.

I'm guessing they would work with a Falcon.

Re: There are tons of BEST of threads, how about the WORST ST games?

Personally I think Shadow of the Beast is an awful game, no matter which platform. It just happens to look good on the Amiga. It's been discussed 100's of times on this board, but yes, Beast ST could have been MUCH better. Not Amiga level obviously but much better than what we were given. Psygnosis ...

Excellent! I knew there was something a-miss with the intro pictures, I know the ST only has 8 shades of grey but the originals looked like they were only using 4 shades.

It's not without its short falls, but I believe it's the best/most interesting of the old school 'all in one box' home computers.

Of course, I did not think for a moment that you meant some MUST here. Indeed it is good candidate. Similar case is Addams Family, for instance. And probably dozen of others. In this heat all goes harder and slower. Even thinking about what to do can hurt sometimes  Agreed, dozens of GOOD ...

Re: Cannon Fodder (D-Bug)

I would like to see the scrolling sorted out as it's horrible in the ST version. Well, you are not alone with it. Already was proposed. Probably possible with blitter aid (STE HW scroll is useless when need to scroll only part of screen horizontally). Sad that game from 1993 still not used blitter....

Even the AGA machines have a 2MB limit for the blitter right? You'd probably be targeting 8bpp on those machines so the constraints may be even worse.

Re: Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) for the Atari STE

Yes but STe is also dealing with sprite display in hardware using the blitter. That is the point Frank B was making, the Amiga could not hold all the available sprite data in RAM, in an area that the Amiga blitter can access. It would need copied from fast -> chip before the blitter could do anythin...
