Re: Games Re-compiling

STOS 2.6 with Compiler version 2.7 doesn't seem to support forward declarations. That is: the compiler will throw an error if an array is used but declared in a later line number even if the array is initialised error by using a goto\gosub. I don't know about writing compilers, but this seems like q...

Re: STOS Dungeon Crawling

A question that does arise, though, is this - how can I shrink a sprite for when it's drawn in the distance? Or am I reduced to having a "normal" object sprite entry and a "small" sprite entry for when it's in the distance, using up more memory space in so doing? You could use t...

Re: STOS Dungeon Crawling

Very nice! Definitely looks good. Points to note: 1. The STOS compiler has a problem at line 820 with undeclared variables: dim curloc$(4),xt(4),yt(4) dim wall$(8) The code works in the interpreter because they are initialised by goto\gosub the compiler doesn't detect that. Question for anyone (Char...

Re: Looking for Ladbroke Computing ST RAM expansion docs

I'm sure it was reviewed in an issue of ST Format, but I can't find it quickly. It looks like a very good upgrade kit. Maybe documented on a Sewer docs disk? There is an advert for it here: http://www.atarimania.com/mags/hi_res/atari-st-user-issue-88_3.jpg "All Aries RAM upgrade boards come pac...

Re: YM + digidrum won't work

Good old Leonard! A translation from Google Translate:

I do not remember at all, but the sources are available. Looking at YmMusic.cpp in readYm6Effect I see that bits 6 and 7 form a 2-bit code:
00: SID
01: Digidrum
10: Sinus-SID
11: Sync-Buzzer

I think that is documented already.

Re: Screen flickering on Atari STe (not PSU-related)

I get this effect when my STFM and when any PS2 (Fat or slim) is connected to my Samsung 40" LCD TV. In this TV there is an old analogue tuner which is now no longer required because analogue transmitters are switched off and a Digital Terrestrial TV (Freeview) Tuner. I assume this interference...

Re: machine language code

Hi Charles, Can't you use PEEK\POKE, DPEEK\DPOKE and LPEEK\LPOKE to read unsigned bytes, words and long words? It has been 20+ years since I wrote anything in GFA but a quick test works: DPOKE &H78000,&HB03C PRINT DPEEK(&H78000) In the C programming language unsigned words are also known...

Re: machine language code

Hi Charles, Are you writing a disassembler? The standard notation for hexadecimal encoding in Hisoft Devpac is to prefix with $ not &H I think the &H notation was popular with Atari BASIC (8-bit) and to a lesser extent GFA BASIC. I never used K-Seka. B03C 0000 disassembles to CMP.B #0,D0 so ...

Re: De-compiling The Missing Link extension help

Hi Beurt, These are fantastic demos! I've never seen them before and should add them to my STOS Wiz-Coders page. The SAC II Megademo has a nice stable full screen with sharp graphics. We made a nice sharp STOS logo for The Misty Demo but Colin somehow managed to block it up. It's good to see the STO...

Re: SHIFTER reimplementation on FPGA

Hi Smonson, On this forum we have seen a number of STs over the years with Shifter chips that have failed. I don't know why chips like that fail over time - can semiconductor junctions fail? What causes that? Since the Shifter is a custom chip do you think an FPGA version would be available for gene...

A similar board is shown here: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=28426 So this should be a 512k ST? U32, U33, U34 and U38 look as if they are a different make of memory chip from the others so maybe someone had problems with this machine in the past and replaced those chips. Is this screen ...

Re: Fast Devpac Question...

Happy birthday Peter! I remember the Bullfrog Tutorial that came with Devpac 2 on ST Format. It had at least 20 includes, incbins etc. As others have mentioned I think this is limited by available memory and not a hardcoded limit. I remember thinking if that was commercial quality code then it was v...

Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

Amazing discovery!! So just to get this right, you need a RGB->VGA adaptor and it displays 320*200 in 2 bitplanes (4 colours?)
It would be interesting to see Oxygene's Bob demo running in that resolution. 4 colours would mean just the Bobs - not the background obviously.

I think it looks good based on the YouTube video. A bit like the on rails shooter Rez on the PS2 and sharper than Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar. It might be a good justification for me to get a PS4, that and Shenmue 3. I'm not really a great fan of Jeff Minter games although Revenge of Mutant Camels wa...

Re: YM + digidrum won't work

Hi Targhan, I don't know if this is significant. I wrote a program to list out the YM6 attributes, just the headers at the moment. It also dumps your digidrum sample to a file. It is 8-bit unsigned and can be read by Audacity. The original specification just mentions 4-bit audio samples, but I'm sur...

Re: Wavy video on 1040 STF

This may sound silly but does your STF have all the shielding in place? In particular there should be a shielding box around the video shifter. I'm not an expert on this but the American FCC at the time had some strict regulations about Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). The shielding should be the...

Re: Recapping an ST board - is it worth?

I think it is worth it to recap your power supply if you want to keep your Atari running. I had a 20 year old epoxy filled Spectrum power supply go up in smoke and was glad it didn't damage my Speccy. I don't know if Wang capacitors were that bad. The Bad Capacitors web site was, I thought, in respo...

Re: Reset button not working on STF

Thanks Greenious! The STF has been stored in a warm, dry room sitting on it's edge with the floppy drive facing up. I really should put it in a box with a dust cover. I might have time to open it up over the weekend and see if there's anything obvious. I'll check the L-shaped pins.
