Out of interest, why aren't you using Compact Flash instead of an almost certainly old and possibly unreliable laptop drive ?

Re: Atari STE only boot in High Res

Don't know ( Black screen ), but The ST is still responsive, and if i blindly select some test ( for example sound test ) they seems to work ( i hear sound ). Check that the mono detect line isn't permanently grounded. Colour diag cart should look like this: IMG_20200218_124137246aaa.jpg and Mono l...

Does the diag cart boot to medium res when you have the colour monitor connected ?

No.

Different yellowing is down to how UV stable some of the different mixes of plasic used. Just light in general is enough to 'yellow' older plastics.

Re: More partitions for hard drives?

Many thanks for the help folks. Just one point: I've read elsewhere that having large partitions is problematic for boot drives; the C drive supposedly should be (say) 15MB or so. Is this correct? Also, if I repartition the Conners, should they be two of 275MB rather than 220MB? Thanks again guys, ...

Re: More partitions for hard drives?

Conner 540MB drives and an EZ135 drive. Thanks in advance for any hints, tips and recommendation. David backup, then repartition - you can split both conners into two 220meg partitions and one for the EZ, then you'd only be up to G: If you aren't that bothered by the loss of space, got for a single...

Re: STFM RAM Capacitor value? Suggestions?

The board definitely has had them fitted at some point, the solder pads show evidence... After looking closely at your improved images, I apologetically agree, it does look as though they were fitted and have been snapped off. But in that case who knows what else has been damaged? yes, this is almo...

Re: STFM RAM Capacitor value? Suggestions?

As someone has been messing with it before, might some tracks around TOS might be damaged? Assuming you have checked TOS chips are correct and in correct possitions, I would also suggest to measure these two resistor packs next to TOS sockets. Sometimes, one or two resistors inside fail. And as the...

OK, been checking the board everywhere and the only fault I can see is C121 next to U60 which is broken.

What do U60 and U61 do ?

Ah, I see. I've replaced the RAM with an upgrade card, so the cart now boots OK, but without the cart, it's stuck in a boot loop. Good to know the CRC stuff is OK though, cheers :)
