Re: Texel sources available

Has anyone else tried the build yet ?

It's been a while since I used PurePascal.

Wish list for2020… or beyond

Hi all, In an idle moment I wondered what Atari developments I would love to see in 2020. It would be great to get usb working on the Milan. David G has put a lot of great work into usb but without a Milan there is only so much he can do. It almost works which makes it so frustrating :-) More power....

Could an alternative connector be used allowing cartridges to be modified ?

Agreed but sadly the small companies doing this sort of thing have been squeezed out of existence by the rules and regulations, certainly on this side of the Atlantic.

Re: Midi and Milan

It was the Waveblaster cards I was thinking of (DB50XG) that provide onboard midi instruments and not offboard midi.

I remember researching a daughter card for the soundblaster. I can't recall if it had midi or if there were drivers.

Re: 1GB Hades

I bought 4 x 128mb edo simms for the Milan but could never get more than one working. I think the sockets aren't great. Even a single 128 was unreliable. In the end I put a blob of hotglue on each end to get it to stay put. I have a total of 192 with my of assortment of cards. I believe Alan had sim...

Re: Java in Atari

Early versions of Java were slow but big improvements were made almost 20 years ago.

I wonder what it would be like now ?

I'm not saying it could run big apps but it might be usable for really basic stuff. Although memory might be an issue.

Re: 68080 Apollo Core

I was never interested in demos but they are intended to exploit every possible trick they can find in the hardware to "demonstrate" what can be done, so it is not surprise that any hardware change breaks them. For instance I suspect that an ST demo might not work on an STE. If the app is ...

Re: Netsurf

I've been using it for several years. It does render pages well but can be very slow with some pages taking 5-10 minutes to download on a Milan 060 at 50MHz. I don't think it is a simple cpu horse-power issue, I get the impression that other 060 platforms do better but it would be great if someone c...

Fantastic, I wasn't expecting such a quick fix. I will test tonight on a Milan.

Re: 68080 Apollo Core

I think the Vampire does add to the m68k world and that can't be a bad thing. I am glad the Amigans have a new machine and that they can enjoy the buzz that goes with it but please no more wars :-)

The issue with the various m68k versions sounds similar to some of the things that have been or are being addressed with Mint so maybe it won't be very hard for it to be addressed ?

I did have a look at their CI Jenkins builds to see if there were any clues to the issue:

There is an Atari log from Aug 2018:

Re: 68080 Apollo Core

I suppose it depends on which Ataris you have been using. I had an ST and then a Milan. The Milan doesn't run ST games and the like and I never bothered with demos. So the option of a machine 2-3x faster and with a similar compatibility as the Milan sounds good. I think the Vampire's lack of an MMU ...

Re: Read Atari floppies on Mac or PC or Amiga

I remember editing a byte on the floppy so that it could be read by a PC or ST as long as the disc had the right number of tracks and sectors in the first place. It had something to do with a bug in the old cp/m code that M$ used when "writing" DOS.

I tried Troll but found the U-Ex a bit unusual so I have stuck with MyMail. I asked Erik if he could open source the code but I think he is too busy to get around to it. MyMail has couple of minor bugs. 1. reply or forward to multiple recipients adds a blank line to the header which confuses mail cl...
