Yes, just looking another way would be easy, wouldn't it?

Re: Advertising Atari with sexy girls.

I find this entire thread sinister. I see no problem in posting vintage ads where hot girls are used to sell products. They did that 30 years ago. What I *do* have problems with is people idolizing this TODAY. It has nothing to do with "political correctness" or "being offended",...

I believe this is the first time I've reported a post on this forum. I have also at times wondered if #metoo really was necessary but now all doubt is gone.

Re: Strange screen bug in 1920x1080 with Aranym and Mint : solved

In fact the resolution is rounded down automatically to 1920x1072, even if you declare 1920x1080x32 in FVDI.SYS it appears in XaAES folder as 1920x1072x32. Is it XaAES or FVDi which does that, I don't know, but it seems that real 1080p is not possible by nature. So it doesn't seems to be a bug, but...

Re: Beginning of very long journey

next please. :) Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to "prove" that there will be problems with a 56301. It's just that whenever something's updated and improved it's *never* as easy as one thinks. There are *always* unexpected problems that can't be solved by the "easy" fixes on...

Re: Falcon TOS EPROM?

When cold booting an Afterburner, you are booting a completely unmodified TOS 4.04. CPU is running in "safe mode" (no caches), no fast-RAM etc. The AB driver then kick in. It detects fast-RAM, sets up a PMMU tree, copies TOS to fast-RAM, patches TOS and then performs a "soft" reb...

Re: Beginning of very long journey

Frankly, I'd be interested to know about other cases. Are you sure you are not confusing it with a software bootstrap? I.e. that you use either Dsp_ExecBoot() or NoCrew's bootstrapper to install your code instead of the one by Atari but that is not the same problem. I'm specifically talking about D...

Re: Beginning of very long journey

So as far as games/demos go, if they don't rely on some dirty practices (like writing beyond RAM space relying on the fact it's mirrored or overflowing the stack -- ask Hatari guys!), they should be fine. What about software that does not use TOS functionality but handles this itself: I'm sure stuf...

Re: Beginning of very long journey

But on the other hand, the performance benefit is really high, someone might be tempted to write a new code for it. (I know what you are probably saying now  ) I think that when you spend this much work on a project, the goal should be clear first. So is this going to be an improved Falcon030...

Re: Beginning of very long journey

Switching DSP to 56301 will be a little setback, but hey - its a fun project and thats where the fun is. So back to the schematics. Awesome. Just want to mention it - in this case some minor changes to the TOS are going to be needed. If TOS needs to be changed to work with the 56301, how would comp...

Yes, I did not read the original question, just the "Why there is the need of Videl's 25.175 MHz"-part. My mistake.

Re: Falcon TOS EPROM?

Guess what I was asking, was to basically include everything in the autofolder execute in sequence with TOS installation from ROM, but have the AB drivers, NVDI, NOVA and basic HD Driver loaded from ROM as opposed from the hard disk. Hmm... Not sure if you will gain much from that.Yes, it will boot...

Re: Falcon TOS EPROM?

Actually, if the copied TOS to fastram is altered, it could be that all you need to do is dump the ram-version and put that in rom? a rom version wouldn't need pmmu, even though you might want TOS in fastram anyway for speedreasons. It's not that simple. The MMU is not only used to remap the patche...

Re: Falcon TOS EPROM?

Can I be so ignorant to ask is it possibe to use BSS debug to take everything from memory to create a file? You mean to dump the patched 4.04 to a file and then burn it to ROM? If so - no you can't. The most important thing about the AB patches is not the TOS image, but to set up the 040 PMMU, and ...

Re: Falcon TOS EPROM?

Has anyone ever identified the first bits if TOS that are incompatible with the 060 code? I would assume that would be the MMU setup code. Not sure if anybody has confirmed how the AB is able to boot plain 4.04, but I guess the CPLD's are "NOP-ing" the PMMU instructions. Compilable source...

Re: Falcon TOS EPROM?

IIRC there is nothing else than ROM in the e00000-efffff address range, so a 1Mb ROM should be possible. You'd probably need to add an address decoder for the upper 1/2Mb. It should be perfectly possible to create a board with 1Mb EEPROM and some logic (one GAL) with address decoder for the e80000-e...

While I don't doubt that Taskbar would be able to do this, it seems to be innocent this time :D Your problem starts with init. I've asked before - where does this init binary come from? Do you know that it works correctly? What about the shell it spawns, where does it come from and do you know it wo...

No, it's not working. You're just crashing something else. It may appear to be working, but it will get you into trouble.
