Re: A good place for CF card on Falcon?

@Joska, I got a much lower profile PicoPSU that works with my CT60e. The memory actually sits higher. I just can't put my cover on due to the SuperVidel's video output. For the PicoPSU I have. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045WFZSQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This one looks...

Re: A good place for CF card on Falcon?

I think zzarko's solution is a good one, except for one thing - the IDE cable covers almost half the ventilation holes above the PSU. I have a solution similar to 1st1 in my Falcon: Falcon laptop floppy.jpg The "eject button" is actually two buttons. Power button and 030/060 mode selector....

Re: Going into demo creation in 2017?

I have two machines with MonSTer cards, one Mega and one STE. Both have 8Mb alt-RAM in addition to the original 4Mb. The STE also have an ET4000 graphics card. In addition to the 8Mb alt-RAM the MonSTer card also has flashable TOS-ROMs and two IDE interfaces. I use IDE->SD adapters in both these mac...

Well, as usual everyone coming with arguments what will prove his right. Unfortunately, some are just forced often. Android is Linux ? I don't think so. It may be Linux based. but user interface is totally different. And what's a "Linux" user interface? ;) Android is yet another framework...

I mostly agree with you, except for this:

This is your personal preference, not a general rule. Other people may enjoy how just as much as (or more than) what.

Re: Modern OS-es, pros and contras, experiences with ..

I'm using Windows 10 at work, that's 8+ hours a day. IMO it's the best version of Windows so far, and I believe I've used all of them since 3.0. That does not make it perfect though, far from it. I can confirm that there is a lot of downtime. Mostly due to updates, but also due to unstable behaviour...

Re: Going into demo creation in 2017?

I hear some mixed opinions whether it's better to do it directly on an Atari Emulator on PC and then test them out on the machine or do the entire coding on the Atari ST. What's "better"? Only you can say that. Sure, it's "better" (faster, easier) to code everything using vasm o...

Yes, once I debugged it on real hardware it also worked in Hatari. But the initial code that did work in Hatari did not work on real hardware.

Linux, because it suits my needs. I'm not passionate about modern computers or OS'es at all and spend as little money and time as possible.

Re: Going into demo creation in 2017?

Yes, I used to code under Hatari on my laptop when I was away from my toys. I did not use cross compilers or any host side tools though, but used the SD-card from my STE as Hatari disk. This way I could simply move the SD-card between my laptop and STE and continue exactly where I left. However, doi...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

I'm using this exact SD-adapter in my Firebee and it's just as fast as any CF-card. However, SD-cards comes in different speeds, with Class 4 cards writing speed is noticable slowed down on the Firebee, so I'm sticking to Class 10 on the Firebee and Falcons. On the ST's even Class 4 is fast enough t...

Re: Going into demo creation in 2017?

Bad formulation. No, precise formulation. Yes, cross-developing on a PC and test/debug with an emulator is more efficient than developing on real hardware. But this is just for fun. It's a hobby. My hobby is to develop ON real hardware, not just FOR it. Using Eclipse, gcc and Hatari on my PC would ...

Re: Going into demo creation in 2017?

1. Learn some basic 68k assembler. DevPac 3 seems to be the standard for ST demo development. 2. Take a look here :) Lots of useful stuff that can teach you a lot. You also have to decide if you want to develop on the ST or just for it. My impression is that most development for the ST these days is...

Re: External hard drive issue with ST (can't write to drive after power down)

I think you also missed that the drive behaves the same on two different STE's. I would suggest to look at the host adapter/disk first, especially since it looks like Chandler has swapped the original drive for a "new" drive and that only the "new" drive has problems. My suggesti...

Re: External hard drive issue with ST (can't write to drive after power down)

Maybe it's a termination issue? Or too long cable from the interface to the drive? Have you tested with a different ACSI cable?
