Re: New board: MonSTer

I hate to ask again, but having not heard anything for a while: has the MonSTer project been shelved or is a new batch planned for the not too distant future? I'm still hoping to secure one for my STe :D If the problem is time constraints, would it be possible to team up with others here who are cap...

Re: Announcing the Lightning ST - USB & IDE for STs

Cool :D
Thank you Czietz!

Yes, it's definitely some kind of pin header with normal thickness pins which goes all the way through the PCB. The only ones I've seen are much shorter (won't allow plugging into an IC socket from underneath).
I'll keep looking, now that I see it's available.

Re: Announcing the Lightning ST - USB & IDE for STs

Since it does not connect to the IKBD port, it will not work with programs querying the IKBD directly -- such as some games might do, as troed pointed out. (However, we didn't get any complaints about this design choice from Lightning VME owners, yet.) I won't be using it with games but mainly MIDI...

Re: Announcing the Lightning ST - USB & IDE for STs

No, the Lightning ST does not connect to the IKBD connector. If you want that, I think the CosmosEx has that feature. There are afaik also dedicated interfaces that only allow you to use a USB keyboard. (The Lightning ST/VME also supports storage, mice, printers, Ethernet adapters, ... Whatever one...

Re: Announcing the Lightning ST - USB & IDE for STs

That's good to hear. Is it correct what Troed said, that it would work only with nicely written software? In other forum discussions on the subject of USB keyboard support it's been (if I'm not mistaken) talk about replacing the ST keyboard connector's input with an IKBD/USB-HID interface which I be...

Re: Announcing the Lightning ST - USB & IDE for STs

Yes, that makes sense. By having it as the first driver in the AUTO folder (and if memory test is patched out in TOS 2.06), will a USB keyboard (and USB mouse) work exactly in the same way as the original Atari mouse and keyboard? I had a look at the Atari wiki Lightning VME info-text (there's no ST...

Re: Announcing the Lightning ST - USB & IDE for STs

Apart from the announcement posting I didn't see any reference to a readme. Where is it? But I should have clarified my question a little better: I do see in the first posting in this thread that it supports USB keyboards and mice, but I'm wondering, since other USB keyboard solutions presented in t...

Re: Announcing the Lightning ST - USB & IDE for STs

Wow! Great work Czietz! A quick question: will it allow USB keyboards and mice to be attached, or is this only for USB memory sticks (for transferring files between the ST and other computers)? Also, are you considering adding ALT-memory (like the MonSTer) to it, or will this demand a complete redes...

Spiny, are you saying he's made a new batch available to buy?
I know his time is limited so I'd rather ask here first in case someone knows.

Re: Current purchasable USB Keyboard to Mega STe options

That's the Rys Mk II demonstrated in that video, isn't it? Then there must be a mistake in the specs as it clearly says support for USB/HID and USB/PS2 keyboards . While using the ST mouse/joystick port makes sense for those wanting to use a USB mouse or joystick it's not of much help to those of us...

Re: Current purchasable USB Keyboard to Mega STe options

No word from the designer of those Amiga USB adapters yet (I asked if he could look into adapting one of them for the Atari ST), but...... Is anyone here knowledgeable about how the Amiga keyboard and mouse interfaces work (along with the software) and can determine if it's just a matter of rewritin...

Re: Two Rys MK2 or two Tom Rev2 problem

On the subject of the Rys Mk II USB adapter -does this really take USB keyboards as the product info page says it will? It's a little confusing because other sites and reviews only mention mice, joysticks and other game controllers while the manufacturer's own products page clearly says "suppor...

Thanks.
If I recall correctly there was also a utility back in the day which allowed you to configure the Magx.inf file simply by point and clicking. It's probably in my archives somewhere.

So 1.27 is the final "official" non-beta version of Thing?

Remove the #, as all lines beginning with this are comments. That's exactly what I thought as well until I noticed that every line starts with "#_" ! But I did manage to solve the problem and get Thing starting upon boot. The solution was to put it before a specific line (I don't know whi...

Re: How to install Thing desktop?

I tried it (but with the slash characters the other way, as I saw the other paths in MAGIX.INF had), but it still booted into MagxDesk. I put the entire Thing folder on to the virtual drive C and in MAGX.INF added the following line: #_SHL C:\THING127\THING\THING.APP I'm puzzled as to how MagxDesk a...
