Re: The Atari ST (and others) and the Creative People

I absolutely agree. Loved the book, very stylish, but it definitely needed a double-check and edit, it would have benefited from someone else reading it before it went to print. Even daft stuff like in the interviews listing someone's ST as having 512MB (rather than 512KB). A shame because the book ...

Re: RETRO-BRITE...Best Process So Far

Nice find, glad that method works. Though when I get around to retrobrighting my ST I'll be taking the method EmpireAndrew suggests and reckon it'd be worth the extra expense as if things do go wrong with other methods then there's no way to reverse it. Badly retrobrighted STs look as bad as yellowe...

Love how they have a photo of an STFM highlighting the memory mounted on the motherboard when they talk about the memory of the STE.

Re: Name of the Game

No idea! The date stamp of the .PRG is November 1990, so it was probably released around then. Looking at the files with a hex editor I can see the names Eric Metens and Muriel Tramis, who both appear to have worked with Coktel Vision but a look on MobyGames doesn't seem to list anything remotely li...

Re: Droid: STE Edition - WIP thread

Just checking in with a small update on this, haven't had any proper time to sit down with this and get my head into it since the last post but I'm having a few days break from working so have got a display list system in place including animations of tiles/sprites. So far I've only put in the anima...

Re: BCS SouthWest Retro Gaming event video

Cool video! I went to it too, I'm not in it but you can see my girlfriend at 2:20 and 3:20 (purple hair!). Seems there's a few ST people around the Plymouth area. Can't remember if they had an ST at this one but they did a few years back, the chap who runs it (Steve) loves ST-era Atari stuff. He's g...

Re: Do you know someone who owns a Sparrow / FX-1?

I JUST FINISHED site (web database) for entering Atari serial numbers: http://milan.kovac.cc/atari/chipmunk/index.php please use it! If we type enough serial numbers, we can make some conclusion regarding Atari computer production! (and report any error on site if you find it!) Thanks Great idea. I...

Re: Droid: STE Edition - WIP thread

Hey! Made some good progress after I uploaded this preview, got the joystick handling working properly and it now also handles diagonals for jumps too, also got item pickups going, optimised the sprite routine and getting there with animated background tiles. Had to knock it on the head for the mean...

Re: Droid: STE Edition - WIP thread

Thanks for the feedback on the controls, the initial WIP download does have rough input handling but I was determined to pump something out over Christmas so people had something to play with. I spent some time refining the controls today and the two points you made happened to be resolved as part o...

Re: Droid: STE Edition - WIP thread

Thanks for the feedback! Does it run on Steem? I have tried a few configurations so far without much success (screen artifacts) Not sure about Steem, I've been testing it on Hatari (works with any memory configuration right down to 512K) and also on my own STE and the only artifacts are a line near ...

Re: Which Games have the Strangest Sound Effects ?

Spidertronic had some pretty bizarre soundeffects too, typical of a lot of French games though I suppose!

There was a coverdisk game where you were a ladybird and there was a soundeffect of a man saying "Nairobi!" when a particular event happened.

Droid: STE Edition - WIP thread

You might recall a few years ago I did an STE DMA audio patch for ST Format coverdisk classic Droid (http://atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=24324&p=221874). I've recently been working on figuring out the graphics and map data and started a complete rewrite in assembler using the blitter ...

I've posted this over at https://www.facebook.com/groups/atarist/, loads of musical talent in the ST scene there. Also, a well-known chap who comes instantly to mind is Fatboy Slim, he's still into using STs as far as I know.
