Re: New book release: Beyond The Borders [The Atari ST and The Creative People vol.2]

Any plans for an ebook release? Not got space for more coffee table books.

Cheers, Mike

Re: PFX packer

Oh I was referring to the versions of pfx it supported. I only ever released one version of NDP plus a small bug fix to sort a redraw issue.

If its saying it cant unpack it then I have no solution I'm afraid.

Re: PFX packer

Its been a long time but Newdpak should support PFX with the following versions 1.1/1.3/1.6/1.8/2.1. Have you actually tried it?

It wouldn't surprise me if the older versions didn't.

Re: Unpack Automation

From the newdpak code (less some setup stuff). It never cares about file names or extensions just whats in the header - /* ** Automation 5.01 datafile */ if ISDATA('AU5!') { .... ice2_3_4_data(file_start,depacked_pointer); .... } From memory the Automation 5.01 packer is just a gem front end to ice....

And remember, Rob did all of this with Sid. I remember him watching him crack Anarchy with it, it looked so primitive compared to what everyone else used but obviously got the job done.

Re: Spectrum 512

Interesting question. One of the best bits of gfx software for a normal ST but strangely missing from online searches.

I used to use it a lot for moving from spec512 to degas elite. It was very powerful if you knew how to use it.... (based on 25 year old memories)

I was fairly certain that Leaving Teramis did?
And was there not an end screen in chambers of shaolin that used it too?

Re: horizontal scrolling on ST

You've sort of guessed it. You need a separate routine for each sprite rotation. Its quite interesting to code it all up, well at least it was 20+ years ago :D .

little bit a offtopic but I just stumble on this: Apple II GS compiled like sprite technique :) http://www.brutaldeluxe.fr/products/crossdevtools/mrspritetech/ I do not think that we can use anything similar on ST bitplanes though... Nice article. Generated sprite code is used a lot on the st alrea...

I'm not entirely certain you would want to delve too much into the centipede code :) But feel free to fix the bugs/gameplay errors/slack coding...

Dave & Gordons code on the others is probably much more readable!

Is this "The Naughty Depacker" a clean GEM application? I'm still after a depacker shell that works correct under FreeMinT and XaAES. TRhe Megadepack from Sinister is not as GEM clean as it looks :( I've woken up... Did you try NewDepack instead? The gem code should be 100% clean as it us...

My centipede clone http://www.atari.st/view.php?id=276 uses them. From memory (it was 15 years ago!) If a line is 100% solid pixels then no mask required. If a line is in less than 4 bit planes then you can make some small optimisations. Line one colour then I think that was a speedup? Disadvantages...

Without sounding like a miserable git, nice looking pictures but I'll reserve judgement until we see a playeable game... I cant really see what everyone is excited about to be honest.
