Re: New production of STE 30pin simms.

You also have to understand *why*. In this case it does not matter. The status of the data bus on the parity chip does not affect the circuit at all. Your missing the point still  You can insert SIMMs with parity in your STE and run memory tests for weeks without failures. That's what matters...

Re: Solution for higher resolutions on STE?

I know people have fitted my booster to the MEGA, but don't think with a gfx card. Though they should work together anyway. Though if the gfx card can take 16mhz input then the booster could easily be adapted.

Re: ATARI 520STFM Keyboard and Mouse Problem

That sounds like a odd fault. Just to confirm you haven't put the floppy cable in backwards as that causes odd drive related issues relating to desktop icons missing.

Re: New production of STE 30pin simms.

The Huyndai (?) datasheet confirms that these are FPM. Yes, but I also have been looking at other brands of DRAM also. I don't remember the exacts. Do you happen to still have them? If so, could you list the DRAM part numbers? Maybe they were too slow? I still have them somewhere. 1MB, 4MB, 16MB si...

Re: New production of STE 30pin simms.

I (clearly) know very little about such things, but would modern 'faster' chips help with the other upgrades, like the boosters and TOS replacements? or is RAM just not a bottleneck? Problem is, DRAM speed isn't the issue, its the MMU speed is fixed. So 500ns DRAM or 50ns DRAM, the controller still...

Re: New production of STE 30pin simms.

If they did not work then it was not because they were FPM SIMMs. The majority (all?) of 30 pin SIMMs are FPM and works perfectly fine in the STE. You probably know this, because the DRAMs used in your own SIMMs are also FPM :) Some sites listed them as FPM, some didn't. Same with some datasheets. ...

Re: New production of STE 30pin simms.

Its a pretty common chip to find really. Its just trusting the source like always, what china print on them, isn't always what the IC is. It just took a huge amount of work to work out a part number which could actually be found.

May I ask what your source for the DRAM is? I understand if you don't want to reveal it... just thought it would be worth asking at least.

Possible yes. Only factor is finding the DRAM for them.

Re: Solution for higher resolutions on STE?

For the STE, likely a new GPU would be needed such as the one Rodolphe suggested.

For the STFM, some extra screen area is possible, but could also hold the same GPU.

Considering "past solutions" are basically "dead" ,new solutions is the only way forward.

Re: New production of STE 30pin simms.

A lot of them are FPM simms, I tried a bunch of them a while ago and they didn't work. Also parity simms which are not great. If you rule out those, you would be pushed to find them in EU. USA seem to always have good stuff.. but not so easy over here. In anycase, I never intended these as a product...

Re: New production of STE 30pin simms.

I have no immediate need for any myself, but I'm pretty sure if I had, making my own SIMMs would never had occurred to me. I just wanted to tip my hat and say what a simple and sensible solution, especially if they can become an item in your shop or a made-to-order offering. Top work. :-) Simms are...

Re: BAD DMA - Myth or fact ?

Just an update from me. I have an STE which was corrupting the files on my Satandisk when I copied files to the drive from floppy. I have finally replaced the CPU with a MC68HC000FN8 and have just sucessfully copied a large amount of files around without seeing the corruption occur. :D Will keep te...

Note that on the STE, if you overclock MMU you also overclock GLUE.

yup, not sure what the side effects of that would be. Probably not good.

Re: STM PSU pricing poll

One way to keep the price down would be to use standard PSU and just desing a case and cabling around it. If I paid something for Atari PSU, it would be for the look and feel, not the innards. Meanwell PSUs are pretty good and very reasonably priced - their 66W one (5V/12V) costs around twenty quid...

Re: STM PSU pricing poll

would it be possible to offer a psu with all the outputs (STM, floppys, 12v for US maybe 5v for Unicorn etc) but unboxed ? As in just solder headers for the power, for end users to make their own cables / cases? Or does this open you up to the less skilled solder types breaking stuff then moaning ?...
