Re: Filters for Scaler

https://github.com/rikard-softgear/PolyphasePreviewer Yep that's the thing to use! Yxkalle knocked that out super quick back when the filters were brand new. I compiled it myself just just to change the default image so that I wouldn't have to load one every time I start the app. https://drive.goog...

Re: Gamma correction

The ADV dsp is just basic multiplication/division so it is not suitable for gamma correction. Can we re-use the scaler's 8bit palette to use as LUT? Grabolosaure told me months ago that it can be used for that. I asked him about fully gamma correct blending for the upscaling (requires gamma LUT at ...

Has the LCD effect shader been alter as it not longer looks correct when using with the Gameboy core? The scaler which hasn't been changed in a while and the LCD effects are the same too Whether or not the LCD filters look good depends on your resolution adn whether you're getting interger scaling....

Re: Gamma correction

Back in the day graphic designers were making content that was viewed on a CRT. A CRT has a very different gamma curve compared to an LCD display. Low and mid-tones are much darker on a CRT. So the designers compensated for this by brightening the darker parts. If the content is viewed on an LCD th...

Re: Genesis Core

Thanks for the help. It was a ROM problem. I guess the MiSTer or the Genesis core is more picky than it used to be. I'm sure that's a good thing! There was a region setting thing added where the core will set the region based on the header. If you have any more trouble you should try manually setti...

Hi, i have a problem, i am using normally 1024x768 over hdmi out for my 4:3 Monitor. In this mode i get with the core no picture, Audio is working fine. Also tested 800x600, 640x480. DVI on/off. Other Monitor. No Picture in 4:3 Modes. 720p, 1080p working fine. VGA out also. The refresh rate of neog...

Re: Scaler

MiSTer is not a computer.. What is essential for PC, is not easy on MiSTer. How about using scripts to make MiSTer.ini changes ? Ex: (VGA Script / Details or Specific Monitor Model, etc) Set vga_scaler=1 Set forced_scandoubler=1 Set 4 - 1280x1024@60 Reboot It's easy enough to have scripts just swit...

Re: NeoGeo topic

Awesome work, team! Congrats! Just reporting... I’m losing TV signal frequently when loading roms or cold boot the system. All updated. Using vsync adjust 2, HDMI. The neogeo uses a refresh rate further from ntsc standard than most home consoles. Some HDTVs don't like that. Mine doesn't. It's aroun...

Re: 240p/120Hz instead of 480p/60Hz for VGA scandoubler?

If you have an HDMI to VGA converter try the following custom video mode: video_mode=1920,48,192,240,240,3,10,8,75170 This should, in theory, show a 1920x240 display at 120hz. Not sure if this will work on the MiSTer. All my CRT VGA monitors are in storage at the moment so I haven't tested it out, ...

Re: Screen Flip? Rotate Screen?

Wait, does that mean that vertical monitor orientation is actually the preferred case for these particular arcade games, and rotation to a normally oriented monitor (horizontal) is more resource hungry? i'm not sure if i understand your question. Vertical arcades have an option to rotate. Rotating ...

Re: Screen Flip? Rotate Screen?

Rotating the screen is very resource hungry feature. There fore it won't be a standard feature for all cores. Only vertical arcades have option to rotate for normally oriented monitor. Wait, does that mean that vertical monitor orientation is actually the preferred case for these particular arcade ...

Re: Screen Flip? Rotate Screen?

You can't. Every core would need to be recompiled with a screen rotation module inside it (like vertical arcade cores already have).

They don't have it right now and I guess probably never will.

Re: Genesis / Megadrive core ported to MiST

Hi All. On the MiSTer port of this core we've had a sound issue in Sonic and Knuckles and I was wondering if the same issue happens on the MiST port. To get it, you'd have to run Sonic and Knuckles (I guess USA region?) not locked onto anything else. Then you'd have to beat the first two levels. Aft...

Re: 240p/120Hz instead of 480p/60Hz for VGA scandoubler?

you don't want to do 640x240 because it won't look good with all the cores. Ideally you want the horizontal resolution as high as possible so it is easier to divide the horizontal resolution of the different cores (some are 320 px, some 256, some 288, etc..) CRT monitors can handle the high horizon...

Re: ScummVM running on FrameBuffer

I wonder if we can decide on a good way to organize things like this and show them to the user. Because right now how will you launch different apps? Running scripts works but it could be nicer. Maybe we can have "Software" or "App Launcher" fpga core that you can run and it prov...

hi, With quartus 18, the creation of the rbf file take 1h44! Is this normal or is there option(s) to activate to reduce the compilation time? Or shall i get older version of quartus? Re: Colecovision and Sega cores don't work right

I tested SDRAM board and it looks to be defective. Order placed for a new SDRAM board to be sure. While it's true that some SDRAM boards from some sellers have been defective over the last few months, it's also really common to install the ram incorrectly. Make sure that you get the three pins on t...

Hybrid scanline/shadow mask/LCD color blending support, which Soltan can explain better than me. He has an idea what's needed. There are two basic effects people talk about when they "hybrid scanlines" (1) Fade out the dark scanlines for high brightness pixels (2) "Bloom" for th...

Re: Genesis Core

Re-forking the repo is unnecessary. You should be creating a new branch for every pull request so you don't mess with the master branch. If you create a pull request and then later push updates to the same branch then it will update the pull request. So you can either use interactive rebase to merg...

Frustrating... Ok so, which option is better: Old CRT: Dimming phosphors but pure analog through IO board's VGA port. Newer CRT: Brighter and sharper picture, but only usable through HDMI port using HDMI-to-VGA adapter? You also have the option of running the core's video through the scaler before ...

What's this? That doesn't look like on of the scanline filters done through the scaler. Is it a "Scandoubler FX" scanline option? ASCAL isn't as good as the VIP scaler for image quality. I have tried several things, such as rounding, but it is not quite right. Maybe but that looks like th...
