Re: No video on SC1435, only a high pitched noise

Took a while to get the flyback, and then a few days to get the time to install it, but I am pleased to announce success! The picture is crisp, clear, and colourful. It's going to need a few adjustments (picture is fairly small on the tube, looks like the 1435 is pretending to be a SM124), but other...

Re: Dead Falcon

This is a dumb question, but it's a dumb mistake that I've made before: Do you have RAM in there?

This might be a job for a diagnostic cartridge with a serial connection.

Careful there... If you're talking about the photos of mine, that's a MK-II, not a MK-X.

Re: Internal SCSI terminator for the Falcon

I'll take a kit. Right now I'm not using the SCSI bus on my C-Lab Falcon at all, but you never know. Won't hurt to terminate it anyway in the meantime. :)

Re: No video on SC1435, only a high pitched noise

Agreed, if the tube is bad, this unfortunately probably turns into a parts monitor. After all, the whole point here was really to keep a tube from going to a landfill. Fortunately, these monitors are a lot more well known for dying flybacks than for dying tubes, so I'm cautiously optimistic about th...

Re: No video on SC1435, only a high pitched noise

I had similar problems with SM124, and it turned out to be PSU. Okay, that's also something to bear in mind. Since these monitors don't have a discrete PSU to pull out and test on its own, do you happen to recall specifically what was amiss, so that I can narrow down the investigation? One of the t...

Re: No video on SC1435, only a high pitched noise

Yep, I have the service manual (both Atari and Philips versions). It's certainly useful for exploring the hardware and for checking a few basic things, but somewhat less helpful in actual troubleshooting, at least for someone with limited experience working on CRTs. I've already ordered the new flyb...

No video on SC1435, only a high pitched noise

I've acquired a non-functional SC1435. I was hoping that the only problem was the power switch, but alas there seems to be a bit more amiss. When the monitor is powered up, the tube is definitely getting power (I can feel the static charge on the front), but there is no image. I hear an unusual high...

Re: STE repair

Dose not part of the TOS switcher you are going to use go over the melted section of that socket? The Exxos STe TOS switcher uses only 28 pins, so he can get away with the melted sockets, as long as they're not melted to the point of shorting. If it were me, I'd probably just pull them and solder t...

Extreme Jaguar case mod (actually it's a kiddie ride)

Just ran across this Atari-related oddity on eBay: a Jaguar-based Skycopter II kiddie ride

The claim that it's a "unique part of Atari history" is a bit dubious, considering the only actual Atari part there is the off-the-shelf Jaguar. But it's certainly an interesting artifact.

Re: 3D Printed CT60e Bracket

For anyone who was planning on printing this bracket, note that I have uploaded a slightly improved design (still linked in the first post). I had my factory PSU back in the Falcon yesterday and I realised that the legs from the Falcon top case rest on top of the feet of the PSU, so my design, which...

3D Printed CT60e Bracket

I've built a power/power button/060 toggle switch bracket for the CT60e, which you can find on Thingiverse or fully editable on Tinkercad . The text I've written on Thingiverse... --- This is a bracket for an Atari Falcon030 computer with the CT60e 68060 accelerator card and a picoPSU power supply. ...

My TT has a 120W-WI PicoPSU running 24/7 for months. No issues at all. I have Thunder/Storm/Lightning and no issues ever. EDIT: I'm also running Nova and Mach64 graphics with the -5V required. How are you generating the -5V? I've been strongly considering doing the same thing, not because of any is...

I speak up to you as a fairly liberal gay man, and even I have no problem with the advertisements representing a time when people were more relaxed and had more fun. Don't let them get to you. Do not let the modern trends get you down. Fun people still exist. :)

Re: Three Sparrow Mainboards on EBay

Judging from the components missing (two crystals, two diodes, some transistors), I suspect this is the "famous" PLL to lock the system clock to the PAL color frequency. It is present in all Ataris with a PAL modulator -- starting with the 520STM. See it here in the Falcon schematic: http...
