Re: Bus error caused by YM buzzer?

Thanks ggn, but I have these magic lines already at the beginning of my code, and the buzzer causes crash with non-maxymiser sndh's as well :/

Bus error caused by YM buzzer?

Hi, I have put my music disk project on pause to work on a birthday present for a friend of mine (childhood friend I used to swap floppies with), but I'm having a problem with sndh's that have a buzzer sound. As soon as the buzzer is used I get 2 bombs and the ST resets. Any idea what could cause th...

Re: My chiptunes

Okay! I'm trying to learn some basic music theory first, so I can figure out why my latest tune seems a bit lacklustre compared to my previous tunes, and then I was planning to make a snow-themed track. So if there's another Winter themed event, let me know... ;) cqrefree/cqreless is quite interest...

Dark Side Of The Spoon 'Please wait' sndh

Hi, I think I managed (almost) to say it all in the title... Couldn't find the sndh of the "please wait" screen from DSOTS (or would it be a .MOD? - sounds dirty like YM-played samples to me) I'm trying to code something for a friend's birthday, does anyone know where to find it (in a ST p...

This should be a very low CPU task, so without seeing your code, it's hard to comment, BUT... 1) definitely store the characters individually rather than copying from the pi1. In your init, copy your characters from the pi1 to a new buffer where they are organised serially rather than spread across...

Re: Assembler video tutorials on Vretrocomputing

I don't plan to explain branching and looping, that would be for basic and boring 68000 lessons. I don't plan to do useful stuff either, as I generally get fun from useless things. But if you want to see cool stuff with good explanations, stay tuned  sounds promising! now what's "cool...

Re: Help a n00b make a music disk! YAY! :D

Ok, so I've already been further than I thought I could, so far I have a program that: - displays pictures - plays SNDH's - changes track according to user input - polls Zync codes from the SNDH's - displays YM levels - scrolls text @ 1pixel/vbl - prints text to screen Very basic stuff indeed but be...

Yes you need these memory set up commands to play most maxymiser tunes as gwEm uses system calls to reserve buffer space for samples.

Re: Help a n00b make a music disk! YAY! :D

Hi all, I'm stuck again! I got to scroll some text @ 1px/vbl, and I wanted to add some music indeed, which is the reason why I'm learning assembly. I searched sources on github and could play SNDH tunes with SID voices and buzzer, but when I try to play a tune that has digidrums (almost all my tunes...

Just to let you know, I got my text display working fine, now I'm scrolling a line of text at 8 px/vbl, need to slow it down to 1 or 2 px/vbl! Assembly is a lot of fun! If only I had had access to such tutorials when I was a teen! :)

Re: Help a n00b! YAY! :D

Hi mister n00b :) There is an example of intro which used display cursor texts with music. NoExtra sources, might check them all :) Merci! Devpac is fine with local labels. You need a dot before the name (e.g. .label) and you need a global label first. Try it! Tried again, works indeed thanks! I mu...

Re: Help a n00b! YAY! :D

Thanks guys! :D I was planning to use subroutines to make it clearer, like I could push the ACSII value to the stack and retrieve it from a subroutine to display it? Also I'm wondering how to cleverly choose labels, Devpac doesn't seem to deal with local labels, are there rules of thumbs or good pra...

Help a n00b make a music disk! YAY! :D

Hi, In order to make a music disk (with a menu, a scroller and something to visualize YM levels), I'm teaching myself assembly, using mostly Perihelion's and MarkeyJester’s 68K tutorials. To make sure I understand how pixels are organized in the graphic memory I made a little program that displays s...

Small update on this, the listings now have syntax highlighting. It's minor, but that make them a bit more readable. syntax.png It took me a while get all the pieces together, I had to start by contributing the m68k syntax to one of the syntax highlighter used by AsciiDoctor! https://nguillaumin.gi...

MonST tutorial?

Hi, I'm trying to find a way to debug my beginner code. If you know a way to debug code assembled with vasm, I'd be very much interested. Same with MonST, I just don't get it. I can open it from Devpac but the assembly in the window doesn't look like my code and when I press CTRL-Z (or CTRL-S) I get...

Difference between .TOS and .PRG?

Hi,

I guess it's kind of a stupid question but my searches didn't yield any useful result. I'm actually trying to understand why some code will compile successfully with Devpac and not with vasm :scratches head: and I was wondering if the executable type could have something to do with it...

Re: Do I need to learn assembly to make a music disk?

You could have a look at: https://github.com/ggnkua/Atari_ST_Sources There's a ton of assembly code in there for various menus/demos/music routines. There's probably something in there that might help. You would have to download the whole giithub archive (~500MB) and then extract the files and sear...
