Re: MiSTer - Case Universal v5.2 - 3D printed

I do not know what soldering skills you are referring to. I/O-Board of MiSTer hast plenty of connectivity options. You will find 12v, 5v and 3,3v pins exposed. The fan has minimal power requirements. Of course a pin connector or something you crimp on has to be attached to the fan, but soldering I ...

Re: MiSTer - Case Universal v5.2 - 3D printed

I use a 40x40x20 fan with halfed voltage. The problem is that solution requires additional soldering skills (that I don't have) and it's not as plug and play as just swapping the fan. Just checked the price on shapeways and wow... 104€ for the case... Does the quality difference justify the price? ...

Re: MiSTer - Case Universal v5.2 - 3D printed

Hi NegSol, Just out of curiosity, did you ever figured a solution to use 80mm or 60mm fans in the case? I am now using my MiSTer quite a bit more and I'm thinking about 3D printing your model, but would like to use the latest version and (if available) one with support for larger fans. Also, do you ...

Can the MiSTer be powered by a USB charger?

I am using an "Anker 60W 6-Port Desktop USB Charger" to power many devices at my desk (such as the MiST) and would love to use it as well for the MiSTer, instead of having another power brick laying around. Can I replace the power brick with some kind of adapter from USB to whatever MiSTer...

Amiga OS 3.1.4

Hi,

Has anyone tried Amiga OS 3.1.4 with the MiST?

I understand that you also need to use a different Kickstart as well, and I am unsure if it is compatible with the MiST.

Thanks

Hi!

I cant seem to find any of them for the MiST (Berzerk, Bagman or Crazy Kong), only for MiSTer.

Do you have links to those cores?

Thanks

Re: Core availability on the MiSTer

Isnt Maniac Miner on MiST the same.as Pacmanic Miner for the MiSTer? Of course it's the same. MiSTer uses the real game name, while MiST uses incorrect name. Thanks guys. Updated the original post. Incredible how MiST only has 7 cores not available on the MiSTer, and the only one that is really imp...

Re: Are Shaders possible?

Thanks for the quick answer.

What about masks? are they also GPU functions?

I am unaware of how the scanline effect is achieved (is it only ignoring each other line?), but could something similar be built to improve the feeling of a CRT?

Are Shaders possible?

Hi, I am a big fan of Scanlines, as they provide a smart way to approximate the visual experience on an LCD to what an old CRT used to be. It helps to smooth out the edges and make the games look more "natural" for me. I understand this is a highly debated and personal topic, but still... ...

Re: Core porting questions

I noticed the MiSTer menu.rbf only supports 50Hz resolution, which doesn't work over VGA on my monitor. I multiplied the four horizontal numbers in menu.sv by 5/6, and it changes the resolution to 60Hz and shows up in my monitor (if slightly off center). I'm not sure if this is useful to anyone or ...

Hi, Almost 4 months after my initial post, I decided to revisit the current status of the MiSTer cores and update the post. Re: Would MiSTer ever be able to run a Neo Geo core?

So, from an FPGA perspective it fits, as well as from a memory perspective. That's great news! What about performance wise? The Neo Geo has several CPU/GPUs ranging from 4Mhz to 24Mhz. The day we can have a NeoGeo running on FPGA will be a great day indeed. Thanks to all the developers for their eff...

Got my Super NT yesterday, and I have to say... It's an amazing piece of kit. The sheer polish level of the interface and the FPGA simulation are incredible! It has the best image I've ever seen from any SNES and no noticeable lag. The way I see it it's a great companion for my MiST, as I use the Mi...

Would MiSTer ever be able to run a Neo Geo core?

Hi,

The question is in the title.

Would the MiSTer ever be able to run a Neo Geo core, if it is ever done?

Or would it require a bigger/more powerful FPGA?

Cheers,

Re: Core availability on the MiSTer

The risk is to buy closed source platform and fully depend on manufacturer. If it will stop to produce the hardware or updates, then you won't have any chance that someone else will pick it up and continue. You do make a valid point on the Hardware part, but I disagree with your view when it comes ...

Re: Core availability on the MiSTer

For me, porting absolutely every core from MiST is not a target. I understand that. I was just providing this information because it is useful for the users when choosing their FPGA platform, and to be honest it was more to show how far the MiSTer has progressed than to linger on it's faults. Altho...

Re: Core availability on the MiSTer

This is not full comparison. Cores on MiSTer usually are more advanced and have many problems fixed - so they are far more playable. So, you cannot compare by just name. That is a fair point, albeit not the purpose of my initial post. Regardless, I agree with you that to provide a better comparison...
