Re: Non-working Mouse/Joy buttons on 520STF keyboard

The Alt+Arrows way of moving the cursor is pure software function, it doesn't work od TOS < 1.04. Sorry to be a bore (and being off topic), the alt+arrows work on 1.02 just fine, and I believe, on 1.00 as well (I always thought this was one of the most useful inclusions of TOS). I think you are con...

Re: We Love Atari (Volume One)

I have the PC3 manual (and PC4) if you are still in need, there are a few bits of minor damage (the glossy coating has been scratched in a few places slightly). PM me if you are still looking for it - would be able to scan this evening.

Re: Motelsoft

Wow that is an astonishing amount of games for a small publisher, I did spy with horror a lot of 'Dungeon Master' type games I had never seen before (had played Walls plenty but the others are new to me) - that'll kill off my social life! :)

Re: 520ST+ with external floppy(SF354) floppy reading issues

I remember having a similar issue with a SF354, which turned out to be a component had broken (a reed switch iirc). Might be a similar problem to yours, as there are two of them, one for the write protect and another which does who-knows-what. Certainly worth opening up the drive as it is simpler me...

Re: Outrun with frame counter

Casting my mind back there was an interview with the programmers of Outrun (in ST Action or the One c. 1989) which showed one of the programming team with a model ferrari car, showing how he used it for modelling the sprite (or at least that is what I garnered at the time from the pictures). So I su...

Re: GDOS performance hit

Oh it sort of works with speedo gdos. You can load it up and write a document with it. You just can't load it afterwards :) It'll crash write on document reload. With NVDI is only sees the system font. Even with predefined point sizes. Sounds about right for Works.. I'll have to see if I can ...

Re: GDOS performance hit

I'm pretty sure I got Write working with Speedo or NVDI many years ago, iirc even with the vectors (at fixed point sizes, I vaguely recall you had to load them in at a fixed point size or predefine them or something). It did take some fiddling, however, of Timeworks levels, I can't remember whether ...

Re: Atari in films

Another not quite a film one, but an Atari ST is sitting on the desk in the spooky office in the BBC4 series Black Lake at the moment.. The main star tried to turn it on in the first episode by hammering the keyboard and when it didn't spring to life she gave up. She was probably waiting for Siri to...

Re: Closing windows in Magic, prevent booting Magic

That's odd, Magic runs lovely on my TT, it is the only machine it runs on that actually boots with a colour boot image as well, which is nice. Perhaps there is another program autobooting effecting the button behaviour.

Re: copying protected floppies -> floppy destruction?

Quite probably, it was a long time ago and I was a little technology inept at the time (still am!), but it seemed rather too coincidental for my liking. The install program wrote something to the disk I believe, and if something went wrong during this part the disk became unreadable. I may well have...

Re: copying protected floppies -> floppy destruction?

Not a game but I did try and copy/ back up an Apex Media master HD floppy once, which did have some form of copy protection (despite warnings in the bumf not to do it), and which did result in the destruction of the disk. Not sure how Titan Designs did that, but the act of trying to copy it did defi...

Re: Which Blitter Chip for a 1040 STF

Chip no. MM9092V works on the STFM, and will probably work fine in your STF. I've never installed one in a STF, but the process is relatively straight forward if you can solder (keep a pin handy to clean out the holes if you are not using a hot air gun/ solder station, and use lead solder if possibl...

Re: Posting Items in the UK

Can't offer advise on selling but I do buy a fair lot of old electronics on ebay. Definetely get it tracked. Make sure the packaging is superb, all couriers seem to like throwing stuff about (bubblewrap then box then more bubblewrap and another bigger box is best - make sure the ST won't move about ...

Re: Quake 2 on Falcon030

Amazing as usual Doug. I did laugh as it the straight port of the PC code seems to be running at the same FPS as some 3D construction kit games :) I reckon it might be playable for people like me who are quite happy with things running at anything over 5fps (60fps - pah!) :)

Re: MagiC and STING

Interesting, that would suggest it is a running order problem, or there isn't enough time in the boot for the Dynaport to initialise with Magic and sticking that program in there has added a few seconds for it get going maybe.

Nah not as far as I know they are too big for most 3D printers at the moment. Which bit has broken? Did you try ST Freakz (might be worth emailing), or perhaps email this guy http://www.ataristsales.com/ . Those are the only two I can think of who sell massacred STs ;) There were a few cases on ebay...

Hhhmm easy one out the way ;) Well presumably you are running HS Modem, is the hardware driver for the Dynaport in that package or is it stand alone (sorry haven't got one, so guessing a bit, and it has been a while since I used Sting with Magic). Other things to check are the control panel app for ...

Perhaps its the boot order, you could try moving Sting's location in the auto folder using autosort or dirsort (Magic needs to run fairly early, while Sting needs to be late iirc).

Interesting, didn't know that (that the IPA can damage the surface). I've been cleaning disks with isopropyl for years and not had a problem so far (although the seed of doubt has now been sown!). Usually I've been really lazy and just rotated the disk (or put it in the drive) after applying so the ...

Re: Screenshots desk accessory?

Imagecopy can run as an accessory, probably the most featured one I can think of, though a little heavy on memory usage. There are quite a few others, probably worth having a search through some cover disks, as I'm sure there'll be something on there. I think an ST word processor also had a screensh...
