Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

Whatever happened to Z-Desk? I've seen a video two about it, and it sounded like it was in a pretty decent state, then it just stopped? Looked amazing though. I think my biggest complaint (and it's already been talked about on the freemint mailing list) is that when something needs to spew out to th...

Re: MINT: We don't make this easy do we?

We have HR dept staff make up a web page inside MS Word and then export to HTML to be placed on the Intranet as announcement. Those are huge compared to just writing out the same stuff by hand. I can only think of... continue to do what we did back in the 80.... use BBS like the one we have now... ...

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

Cool thanks! I think one of the reasons I haven't tried it yet is I saw the last release was a few years ago, so wasn't sure you were still working on it. AES sounds like modern video card drivers, where they put in work around code in games that detect the executable, then run with different code t...

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

Thanks! That's what I'm talking about. That brings up something, so from what I had read a while back, MyAES is open source just like XaAES, right? But it seemed to me most people thought MyAES wasn't quite feature complete yet, whereas XaAES was. Is that correct? I know most MiNT distributions com...

Re: MINT: We don't make this easy do we?

I agree with that. I know someone on amiga.org had created a proxy server that would make it so you could browse amiga.org on iBrowse on the Amiga. My problem with that route though is that he didn't have https enabled, but on that note, SSL would need to be updated for correct browsing (and I think...

Re: MINT: We don't make this easy do we?

You know what I've started doing? I find pages that are 'add free, but accept donations' and I'll donate to them. I absolutely hate ads and think they're an abomination (which is why I stopped watching broadcast television long ago). The only ads I watch now are maybe the occasionally funny one on y...

Re: SuperVidel soon?

Yeah, I knew that much. I also recall reading that Willy was planning on producing them after the run of CT60e was finished and everyone had theirs in their hands, but I don't think he's done with that, right? last I had heard he was still sending a ton of them out.

Re: MINT: We don't make this easy do we?

Ha, I thought most people just did some CSS layout tweaks and used Wordpress. At least that's what the web dev guy I know does. But I agree, most web designers don't actually deal directly with html code these days.

Re: Ever seen Monkey Island 2 on an Atari SM124 ? :D

Yeah, he hooked a Raspberry Pi up to an Atari SM124, and ran Monkey Island 2 through ScummVM. I guess technically if you have a fast ST you could do the same through ScummVM as well. I need to give it a try on my Falcon or TT one of these days.

Re: Something positive, for change

Speaking of Firefox's spell checker. I ended up changing mine to English (UK) at some point, and now whenever I leave out the extra U, it reminds me (for things like colour, armour, etc).

Re: MINT: We don't make this easy do we?

Same here. I always ask when I see someone pull up a youtube video 'what is this crap? Install adblocker...' The worse are the sites that pop up whining that you have adblocker installed. I just get my information elsewhere. I think browsers need a blacklist function... Anyhow, sorry, going off topi...

Re: MINT: We don't make this easy do we?

I think the answer to that is an ad-blocking proxy. Then the ads don't even make it to the browser. Ads to me are what break the internet, can you imagine how clean everything would be without all that extra crap?

Re: MINT: We don't make this easy do we?

Yeah that's why it'd be awesome to have a compatible browser made that is lightweight... but with javascript and all that nonsense on a lot of pages, it makes it hard for the poor 16mhz system to be able to handle it. Browsing is pretty painful even on my Amiga that has a 060@50 with 384mb of ram an...

Awesome! The Videl is seriously impressive. It's too bad Atari abandoned the Falcon so soon into it's life and went full on Jaguar instead.

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

I've always hated the oversized icons on Workbench here and there as given the limited screen resolutions they never seemed appropriate... The "animation" was cool though. Yeah, I think most typical desktop icons were pretty large, but not terrible if you used something like 640x400, but ...

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

Yeah, it was definitely TOS 4+ TOS 3.05/6 was basically the same as 2.05/6 except that they had TT resolutions in them. And I think they also added in the deskicon.rsc (or whatever that file was) for custom icons in 4+, since all the desktop replacements could use something like that already. Shame ...

Re: MINT: We don't make this easy do we?

It's not just you, @EmpireAndrew. I did it quite a few months back and couldn't find anything on Highwire either. Couldn't find a decent link for CAB either. I thought there was one more browser / suite out there. Draconis or something? Netsurf seems to be the most capable though (css support and al...

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

Ha ha. The one thing I always liked about the Amiga Workbench is the 'animated' icons (granted they were just highlighted/unhighlighted, but they could be different.) That and they didn't really have a standard size (which is a plus / minus I guess depending on your perspective.)

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

Wow, I'd never thought of doing that with NEWDESK.INF. That's brilliant. Is there any sort of GUI manager for that? Like you could have it auto-rename things like AUTOSORT, XBOOT, etc do? Then you could have something like 'ACTIVITY' folder with various named INF files that could be moved around an...

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

This is exactly what my Gnome desktop looks like without anything running. I most certainly don't see any Huge Icons. This is a Debian Sid (gnome 3.24) setup. Only extensions I have enabled are openweather, system monitor, gpaste and User Themes, though I use the default so that doesn't even matter....

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

The operating systems are definitely very different in how you configure them, but with XaAES, we should be able to make it look as nice as AfaOS does for the Amiga. A matter of taste I guess, but I've always found Workbench just plain ugly. The current look is just tarted up versions of the 1985 W...

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

I find my FireBee's desktop way prettier than any Amiga workbench I've ever seen. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder I guess. Pics or it didn't happen! This is mostly a 'pretty desktop' thread. Now obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I want to see some of what the various A...
