Re: Acorn Archimedes

OK. I can edit SVGAIDE.RAM file with a Hex Editor, but what value and position of 256 bytes I will must use? You can find the CMOS content definition here: http://www.riscos.com/support/developers/prm/memoryman.html#40894 Or here: https://www.riscosopen.org/wiki/documentation/show/OS_Byte%20CMOS%20...

Re: Acorn Archimedes

I understand that it is the serial joystick and not the RTFM. I haven't tested it, but it is documented as "Acorn" joystick interface (i.e. A3010 type), so neither TSP nor RTFM. How many trigger buttons does it support? Two I think. But I am not aware of games that supported more than one...

I have verified that the Cataclysm game does not work in the last core archimedes_191102, it gives "Unable to move memory" error, however it does work in the previous version archimedes_190308. I found out that there are two Cataclysm versions - the original (1991 vintage) and a modern Ri...

Re: Acorn Archimedes

Arculator v2.0 has been released, for those who (like me) switch between PC-based emulation and MIST:
https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic ... 30&t=18223

Now with true disc drive noise! OK, that's perhaps the least impressive thing from the "Changes" list...

So I have an image for you to try: https://www.huber-net.de/riscos/archie1.zip The archive contains a 260MB file, and the IDEFS driver doesn't recognize the filesystem on it (did you create it on Riscdev's IDEFS or ADFS?) I haven't had a chance to try on my real MIST, so a stab in the dark... hubersn It's not MiST specific, it's the same in Arculator (selected "old" FDD, then the IDE interface is the RISC Development one). Even tried to *Configure filesystem IDEFS, no change. Will try the other CMOS settin...

Re: Acorn Archimedes

Renamed the disc to "HardDisc4" because I am a RISC OS traditionalist :-) (and to pragmatically avoid any hardcoded-path-problems in !Boot setup) Anything has to be done to load the new Wimp? SF3000 still complains about the need of 3.80. I haven't had a chance to try on my real MIST, so ...

Hi! I found a nice RTS game called TEK 1608: http://www.acorn-gaming.org.uk/index.php3?p=Reviews/Tek/index Perhaps it worths to test this title with the new core, although it's still commercial AFAIK... I fear it won't be worth it, since TEK is from the Risc PC generation of games targetted at the ...

And it needs the Toolbox modules also. So a true full UniBoot is needed. I'll do a proper HD image with all bells and whistles. And, as it turns out, it wants a later version of the Toolbox modules than those bundled with UniBoot. Well, if it was easy, anybody could do it :-) Have fun hubersn I hop...

Re: Acorn Archimedes

I hope you can sort this out. The whole purpose of the IDE interface is to run SF3000 :) OK, so when I tell you that the core needs feature xyz to run SF3000 you would be extra motivated to implement it. How about networking support (Econet and Ethernet of course!), FPA10, the different joystick in...

Re: Acorn Archimedes

I haven't tried - does Shift-Boot work with the core? But I am actually surprised that Star Fighter 3000 itself needs the "Nested WIMP" at all. All the tools surrounding it - OK, because they are newer developments. But the original Star Fighter 3000 ran on plain RISC OS 3.1, and it would...

Re: Acorn Archimedes

Do you have an idea is it possible to upgrade Wimp to 3.80? According to http://starfighter.acornarcade.com/ it's in the UniBoot package, but even I unpacked one from the riscos site, I don't think it was successful. At least SF3000 didn't start. I will have a go. UniBoot contains WIMP 3.98 (which ...

Re: Acorn Archimedes

The original ICS ROM is 32k, how could ZIDEFS work only in 8k? John Kortink magic assembler coding? I have no idea, would have to look into the disassembly. Re: Acorn Archimedes

It seems the built-in IDE in RISC OS (with the 82c711 chip) works only if the FDC is also used from that chip. Yes, I think this is correct. It is either 1772-and-6551 or 82c710/82c711-all-the-way. If you want to keep the 1772 and support a harddisc out of the box with RISC OS 3.1, you'd need to si...

For example I've only found Lotus 2 on JFD format after several months. I don't know why so many games are not available around the net... RISC OS is a strange system, there are still dealers around selling that stuff "as new", so copyright is still taken very seriously in RISC OS land. T...

Re: Doom/Doom II (PrBoom-Plus) on Framebuffer/ARM

Wow, speed is impressive! I didn't expect so high performance. Doom worked fine on a mere Acorn Risc PC with 200 MHz StrongARM, so a fast Cortex-A9 should really have no problem at all. Quake, on the other hand, needed a highly optimised graphics part, a plain port only reached "barely playabl...
