Re: Code for Gal22v10

Hi Juice2839, The best I can offer is to point to Atmel's WinCUPL : http://www.atmel.com/devices/ATF22V10B.aspx?tab=tools This is the only modern tool for PLDs, as Atmel also produces ATF22V10. Here is a simple walkthrough: http://people.sinclair.edu/nickreeder/eet1131/programmingGAL.htm In the WinC...

Re: Some newer "shopping" - Yamaha QY70

Been a big fan of Yamaha's XG midi extention for a while, and the QY70 is on my wish list. Very cool form-factor and portable. Would like to hear how you like it, have seen some demos on YT that sound very cool. If the "QY Data Filer" software doesn't come with your buy, you need to hunt a...

Amai is awesome, love the pads in it. Purple Galaxy is smok'n too, but Brutal aTTack is the best :) Also thanks for the MT-32 tracks, nice hearing it in action. Would like to pick one up at some point (right price at same time I have money in my pocket) :)
nice album, enjoying it.

Re: AY-3-891x conversion or music archives?

Its true, on the rev3 schematic I go straight to header (so I coudl fiddle with mixing and such easily), and then to headphoes for me to listen on while screwing around. Seemed to work.. I can run a stairway set of sounds or basic song that I wrote or swiped. In the work in progress rev4, it goes t...

Re: AY-3-891x conversion or music archives?

So this is a little OT, but the confusion with the 4Mhz clock was bugging me. I'm sure somewhere other then the waveguide site listed the ST's YM clk as 4MHz. So I've been digging some, and though Daniel @ waveguide quoted wrong he was correct in that the YMZ needs to be clock at 4 for ST YM files. ...

Re: AY-3-891x conversion or music archives?

Heads up, Not sure where I got the '4MHz clock' for the ST, but the schematic I just reviewed shows a 2MHz CLK to the YM. Further, the YM has an internal divide by two function which the AY does not. But the ST leaves the control pin, 26, unconnected. So in this regard, the YM is in AY mode, clock i...

Re: AY-3-891x conversion or music archives?

I don't know if this is what you're looking for; on the page I pointed to there is some info on the YM file format that you could use. Daniel has some files on the bottom of the page, examples of the unpacking steps. If you open a unpacked 'Register dump' in a hex editor, I use HxD, and set the 'byt...

Re: A small curiosity of 520ST music :)

Not long ago I had the idea to do a board run of some of the voicecard boards from the Mutable Instruments' Ambika synth. http://mutable-instruments.net/ambika/build/technotes They are open source and with just slight modding could be used as a VCF for other projects (I had in mind a Midibox synth)....

Re: AY-3-891x conversion or music archives?

If you are having an issue with the noise channel, (should test for sure) may be able to use a RC circuit with a long time const to avoid using an I/O pin. But you may be hearing a difference in the clock; music composed for a system clocking the AY at X MHz will sound out of tune on a system clocki...

Reset? Do you mean .. power up the pcb, wait a moment, and then pull down /RESET? Huh. I wonder if need took ru a gpio or address line over to /reset, just to do that toggling? I'll have to fiddle.. can manually jumper from /RESET to GND while pcb is powered, to trial that.. Thanks for the tip! Yes...

Re: AY-3-891x conversion or music archives?

maybe it's because they are older, but all the AY-3-8910 I got from ebay had defective noise generator. With YM2149 all was working fine. I don't know if AY-3- 8912 are more reliable or not. As a side note, There is a AY synth project over at MidiBox.org where it was discovered that the missing noi...

Re: A small curiosity of 520ST music :)

Thanks so much for your insight (and tunes). Have been looking very close at the TSFM board lately, wanting to enhance the ST in a like manner. The TSFM would seem to be very close to a drop-in for any system using a AY/YM. Biggest concerns are the differences between the systems, such as the ST use...

Re: A small curiosity of 520ST music :)

Just love this, MORE! MORE! As mentioned earlier, adding filters would be very cool. For example, the modern design Shruthi synth with AVRs and filters by Mutable Instruments; why not something like this for ST? YM with something like Tweety board mod (2 or 3 channels out), external VCF/LFO/EG contr...

Re: Yamaha OPL on Atari STe?

If i understand correctly so are you doing an emulated ym2149 in an CPLD? Then you don't need to limit to the ym2149 and instead add the AY8930 :) No, I will move the YM2149 (or AY) from the main board, on to the mod board. The board will have a PSG chip and a FM chip. The CPLD allows the ST to acc...

Re: Yamaha OPL on Atari STe?

A little update As outlined in the last post, I like the idea of a unique sound board alot and re-wrote the VHDL for a ym2149/ym 2612 design. The design synthesizes and fits into a XC9536xl, and finally last night, I DLed the .jed bitstream to a larger XC9572 for testing. Had some issues with my 'cl...

Re: Yamaha OPL on Atari STe?

Bumping with a little update :) Got a basic framework in VHDL for the interface, test todo. YM2203 and DACs on order. There is a section of the original TFM CPLD that I'm still fuzzy on. The system CLK is routed into the CPLD, it runs through a shift reg entity and then is XORed with the current CLK...

Re: Yamaha OPL on Atari STe?

So I've been going through the TSFM cpld design's .tdf file and comparing to the ST's Ym2149 hardware and it looks very good. I will implement the design and slight changes with VHDL in a Xilinx XC9532xl; already got the tool chain and breakout boards are pretty cheep @ Dangerous Prototypes/Seeed St...

Re: Yamaha OPL on Atari STe?

The important question for such a YM dropin replacement in ST is that it is still able to control the floppy and printer port, fully compatible to TOS? Good point, I had over looked the Port usage. :? Looking over the schema, Ports A and B of the first YM are routed back to the interconnect header,...

Hi soviet9922. Yes if this could be used with ST, would be excellent :) Would seem to be, but the manual is in Russian. Will try to find a PDF translation app. There doesn't seem to be a board in production ATM, and not even sure if NedoPC would be willing to deal with/ship internationally. The desi...

Looking at the board pix, the cart is a 16b R2R dac with a LM386 amp . Very much like the A8's Covox type boards.

After search for Music Master, also looks like Digi Composer also supports the MV16. And maybe Noisetracker 1.5 :)

So I've been working on a Melody Maker Redux with a few enhancements. Added a 2 channel Panning mixer to allow the ST's audio to be feed in and mixed into the stereo field. The YM's MO audio is also pan-able and the RO is center on both output channels. The current board is a prototype for testing. ...

Yogi i checked your traces and they are correct :) Indeed so are YM2413 a very limited soundchip, but maybe it is possible to rip the music from SMS and MSX games and make a music demo for the ST ;) If having an new FM synthesis cartridge for the ST made so is probably OPL4 the best choice, it is u...
