Re: list of all ST games using MIDI Sound

I got Space Quest III working with MIDI support:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ny5ONMX-R2I

Since I don't have a real MT-32 I used an ST emulator and munt:
http://munt.sourceforge.net/

Might be a nice Saturday project to setup a Raspberry Pi as a cheap MT-32 box :-)

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

Works with my 64MB setup, but then again it also passes at 167MHz. Ijor, what is the max speed used by your SDRAM controller setup with FX CAST? Currently the core's SDRAM controller uses a very conservative 64 MHz frequency. Do you plan to support hard disks and/or .STX floppy images in an upcomin...

Do you plan to support hard disks and/or .STX floppy images in an upcoming revision?

Games that work on Archie core

This core is in beta status. The wiki mentions "Some games now run. Expect issues." Initial testing results below. Please feel free to reply back with more Cannon Fodder - Playable. Some audio issues during intro (too fast, high pitch). Some slowdown Chuck Rock - Not playable. Intro works ...

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

Congrats on the wonderful ST core!

On my real ST I use null modem and also Ethernet (NetUSBee) to talk to the outside world

Any plans to add comms support in the FX CAST core? I see that MiSTer supports serial (UART) connection from FPGA to Linux at 115200 baud. Any possibility to use this channel?

Re: "Waving" RGB output - cause?

To close the loop on this - I purchased a VGA cable (to replace my RGB SCART cable) and the video instability is completely gone. So (at least for my STE), HSYNC works way better than CSYNC

Re: "Waving" RGB output - cause?

Very interesting! I use RGB SCART and have a very similar issue with my STE - video starts to wobble after being powered on for 10-15 minutes. Can you confirm this issue disappears with the ST2VGA or ubeswitch adapters? If so I’ll get one - don’t have an osilloscope to tweak the capacitor unfortuna...

Re: Seltos vs Physical Roms

The advantage is low price. Disadvantages: Slow booting, RAM usage. I would highly recommend getting a MonSTer for you Mega - when/if Alan makes a new batch. Not only does it have flashable ROMs, it also has 8Mb alt-RAM and an IDE interface. More RAM is very welcome when using a graphics card like ...

Maybe you can make the two ribbon cable longer, you have to test it.

PS this case looks great! Do you know where I can buy one from?

Seltos vs Physical Roms

I have a Mega ST with TOS 1.02, and I’m currently using SELTOS to bootstrap TOS 2.06 and workaround some of the bugs/issues in TOS 1.02

What are the advantages/disadvantages of this approach? I am missing out on anything by not having newer TOS ROMs?

Kind regards,

James

I’m using Frank’s Mega ST ISA graphics card adapter + a compatible ET4000AX graphics card on my Mega ST Currently I have the case open, but I’d like to close the case and make things a little neater. Re: Recommended accelerator options for ST

Thanks! Off topic question, but related. If FPGA clones exactly replicate the original hardware, what is the source of incompatibility? The only thing that comes to mind is that they are functional hardware replicas (rather than mirroring the exact logic gate topology in original hardware). Do you ...

Re: Recommended accelerator options for ST

While the FPGA clones certainly got the potential to have the ST/STE replicated 100% hardwarewise, they are not there yet. There is still work to be done on the custom IC's. A while back someone discovered old schematics of some of the IC's, and I'm sure these findings eventually will find it's way...

Re: Recommended accelerator options for ST

They are certainly the easiest options. The downside with these is the non-existing compatibility with anything that runs cycle-exact code (most demos, some games that split palettes and/or opens lower border). Thanks! Off topic question, but related. If FPGA clones exactly replicate the original h...

Re: Recommended accelerator options for ST

Without cache, memory access is not improved at all, which basically is like replacing your car engine with a faster one, while locking your gearbox down to three gears. Exactly. Speed increase with CPU overclocking only is minor. However, cache does not solve everything for this particular use (ga...

Re: Recommended accelerator options for ST

Most Games will not work with a 020 or 030 CPU booster ... You need a 68000 to run Games and no TOS 2.06. Better is 1.04 (ST) or 1.62 (STE). I'd not totally disagree with that statement but I'd have to qualify it - using the adapted games from PPera or Dbug, you can run many of them on accelerators...

Exxos makes accelerators for the machines you have. https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/last/storenew/ Next step would be to to use ppera's hard drive adapted games, this will sort compatibility out. http://atari.8bitchip.info/fromhd2.php Running stock/original games may be an issue as not all are wr...

Re: Recommended accelerator options for ST

I’d like to play some old games at faster frames rates. What accelerators or hardware upgrades might you recommend? Well, I could get a ban for this replay, but to be honest if you want to play smoother, faster ST games ( sprite ones, not the vector ones ), the best option ( and much more cheaper t...
