Re: What to do with my atari's?

Perhaps I have found this thread too late! I brought my Atari 1040ST, 2 monitors (monochrome and color) along with a 800xl with a 810 drive to the end of their life by taking them to what we call an eco-center, a place where they properly dispose objects such as electronic devices. Never in a millio...

Re: Asylum - Anyone completed this game?

Yes, the text adventure game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpZfIbzcNYU). I think the 1981 version was monochrome for the TRS-80 only but the Atari 8-bit version came out somewhere in 1986 (I think). But the Wikipedia page offers a link to a walkthrough! Unfortunately, the link doesn't seem to work.

Asylum - Anyone completed this game?

I once played "Asylum" by making the map of it and wrote all the moves. Unfortunately, I never finished it. Recently, I decided to give it another shot and went a bit further but I'm once again stuck. Has anyone ever completed this game? There doesn't seem to be any walkthrough on the net.

Re: Dungeon Master (ST) versus Eye of Beholder (PC)?

I use hatari... hmm, but you can or could restore a given snapshot, create a floppy disk as ST or MSA, and slot in, and then "save". If possible, I would be pleased to resume a level just better than the first one or from beginning. Use Steem instead and then use SuperCC to rebuild your c...

Re: Transfering floppies to PC

I use a Kryoflux to transfer 5.25" floppies to my PC via a Teac FD505 drive (it's a 5.25" and 3.5" drive combined into one unit). I've never tried Atari 8-bit disks but the parameters are there in the Kryoflux software to image them up. If I understand correctly, I would first need t...

Transfering floppies to PC

I'd like to transfer my 5-1/4" Atari 8-bit floppies on my PC. I've read about the USB SIO2PC thing but can't seem to find where to get it. I still have my XM301 and thought about putting a modem card in my PC. If I directly connect both modems, could I somehow be able to transfer data between t...

Wanted: STFormat magazine scans related to Captive

As some of you know, I'm the webmaster of captive.atari.org and I'm working on the august update of the site which will have some magazine scans related to Captive. I've found a lot but just can't seem to get my hands on STFormat scans. Captive is mentioned on issue 15 or 16 and said to have been aw...

If you're playing with Steem, you can use SuperCC to edit whatever you want. See http://captive.atari.org/Miscellaneous/Tools/Tools.php

Was Captive stereo on the STe?

At the bottom of the "Sounds" page on my Captive website, I recently wrote that the Atari version of Captive 1.0 was initially written to be stereo but difficulties prevented such a thing and was completely written off for version 1.2 (see http://captive.atari.org/Technical/Sounds/Sounds.p...

Re: Displaying the frames per second

Yeah, that's what I realized this morning: Cycles per VBL . That's my problem. For some reason, I was considering this to be like "Number of cycles since the last breakpoint". Of course it wasn't giving me the expected results. But I think I got it now. I've set a breakpoint at the VBL and...

Re: Displaying the frames per second

The right pane of STeem can toggle between the "Stack display" or "Timing display". I've set a breakpoint where I know the game is generating a new screen and thought the "Cycles since VBL" could help me. Everytime the breakpoint was hit, this value was around 166000. W...

Displaying the frames per second

I'm trying to figure out how many frames per second a game can generate. I guess I'm looking for something like FRAPS on the PC.

Or perhaps there's another method? I thought I could find something in the debug version of Steem, but I couldn't find it.

I'm so glad. This second disk has been a mystery for so long. Mystery solved!

Re: Force drive to be single side

Don't image it. Specify 79 as the last track. Ok, I can create the file if I specify 79 as the last track, but Steem doesn't boot Captive with it. When I try to open drive A: with it, it says "Drive A: is not responding". I don't understand what you mean by "Don't image it". Wha...

Re: Force drive to be single side

The idea of meta-imaging seemed to be going fine until I hit the last track. http://pages.infinit.net/lyverbe/Cap1Side.jpg At that point, it ends up with a "Read error" and the image can't be used. I'd try that Pasti breakpoint thingy, but I'm not sure I fully understand how to do it all :?

Re: Force drive to be single side

Yes, the second disk is used only on systems with single sided drives. That's a feature I considered adding to Pasti, but it was never a high priority, because it is rarely needed. Well, I need it :) I'd like to see it in action in order to mention it on the site without any doubt that the informat...

Re: Force drive to be single side

Hmm... sort of. I think. Could be :) On my UCG site, the second disk of Captive has always been a mystery. The game never requires it, yet there's data on it. It was brought to my attention that the game "F29 Retaliator" also had 2 disks with the second disk being used ONLY if the system's...

Force drive to be single side

I need to test something with a single-sided drive, but Steem is emulating double-sided. Is there an emulator that would allow me to emulate a system with a single-sided drive? or perhaps use SteemDebug to toggle some bit that would make the Atari believe it has a single-sided drive installed?

Captive 1.1

Does anyone have Captive 1.1? It was quickly replaced by Mindscape with 1.2 after the programmer introduced a bug in it, making it hard to find. I've got my hands on the demo, 1.0 and 1.2. I'd like to fill the void :)

SuperCC 2.0

A year ago today, I made the first official release of SuperCC (see thread http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=10084). After a couple of updates, the last you've heard of it was on December 16. Don't think it all ended there. After a couple of months working on a different project, I went bac...
