Re: Mini MiSTer/Retroflag GPi

It carries all IO, including audio and video, through USB-C, and implements a specific Android protocol... I don’t think it can be adapted to MiSTer. Check the page, they have an adapter for RPi that would work great with a MiSTer. IMHO the best solution would be a small clamshell design with both ...

Re: Mini MiSTer/Retroflag GPi

This looks promising: http://nexdock.com

Its not a handheld, but with a small case and battery the MiSTer would be portable.

Re: Handheld MiSTer project

I have a GPD Win, I dreamed of having a Windows PC like that for years. It's great but it tends to overheat noticeably. I'm not sure if they improved it for the GPD Win 2. This is probably doable with a custom PCB but then it's more of a MiST than MiSTer. I do like the NDS style clamshell design bet...

How does this optical audio conversion compare to using an HDMI audio splitter like this one?

Right, I feel pricing is key for this one. If it's compatible with current MiST without recompilation, that would be very convenient.

Just to confirm, this allows using multiple controllers on one dongle, right? That would be pretty good to save space.

It's a moot point. Freesync is about making your monitor go potentially slower than 60fps so it matches your processing speed...

Re: Direct Bluetooth gamepad support

It's so interesting that the VID/PID is the DS4. I suppose there was a OS X library for the playstation gamepads, and they are just piggybacking on the existing support.

Re: External HDD / Retrode Cardridge USB Reader / Mister

Are the gamepads ports recognized? If not that would suggest the Retrode doesn't present itself as a USB hub, which could cause problems.

Re: Newbie questions

Why no complex arcade games like in MAME? Its more dificult to "fpga it"?, or just mister can't do that? MAME has benefited from hundreds of developers and contributors for over 20 years. Get that manpower behind MiSTer and it can maybe get to the same stage. FPGA tech is different, it ca...

Re: MiSTer on DE10-Standard - needed?

I second that, there's quite a few FPGA devices at slightly less than $200, like the newer Analogues and the RetroUSB AVS, amd those are "end user" products with plastic molded cases. Hard to compete with a bare hobbist board at a higher price than that.

Re: How actively are you using your MiST?

As I may have stated earlier, MiST/ica or a similar device would have value as something that can be built from scratch if needed. There is the risk of fragmenting the userbase and developer base with a new hardware version, though. Would we gain much more with a MiST 2? Could it receive the same co...

I like the current name. As for the original, Mi = Amiga and ST = Atari ST. MiST also means "crap" on German or something like that. MiSTer references the original and also adds some class :D And as I said earlier it could be from "Terasic". So you get "amiga and atari on Te...

It's true, the MiST has a niche of being more "retro" tech and can be built from scratch as long as there are components.

I use console test carts, like this one for Super Nintendo:

They cover 8 buttons which should be enough for any supported core.
