It's simple. I love them both! Absolutely the best computers ever built.

Re: Difference between TOS 4.00 > 4.04

TOS 4.0 has a white back ground on all GEM dialogs. Only the buttons have the grey 3D look. That’s the most visible change. I have TOS 4.0 and 4.04 on 2 different machines.

Re: Couple TT hardware questions (UltraSatan, TOM, and NetUSBee)

I see the same issue with the clock loader and set on the TT. The same utrasatan works fine on other machines. The clock utilities don't
seem to work on the TT.

Re: a simple way to hide all Mist/Mister posts

The mist was an atari and amiga compatible. The mister project killed the original mist and the Mister maintainer doesn't even like the ST. It's a mystery why it belongs on this forum at all.

Re: a simple way to hide all Mist/Mister posts

I am still for outsourcing them completely from AF due to the sheer volume of posts by now. This makes sense to me - it is its own stand alone product - it should have its own forum. My issue is I consume this website via active topics RSS feed - can an active topics RSS feed be setup without inclu...

The Mega ST fan is quite noisy. It could be mistaken for a hard disk. Add an ultra satan anyway :)

Thanks. It works much faster than GDOS. Just need a good laserjet compatible driver and fonts next :)

I already got the pcl output working with timeworks and gdos. It has a non standard font set though :(

Re: GDOS performance hit

It sort of works but the font sizes are 1/4 what they should be with the laserjet. There's supposed to be a laserjet driver for standard GDOS developed by Migraph. It was a paid update for easydraw 2. Does anyone have this by any chance?

Re: GDOS performance hit

Interesting. I can now print with the laserjet driver from speedo cobbled ontop of the write gdos config with gplus.
I capture the output on hatari and run it through a pcl -> pdf conversion.

Re: GDOS performance hit

Oh it sort of works with speedo gdos. You can load it up and write a document with it. You just can't load it afterwards :) It'll crash write on document reload. With NVDI is only sees the system font. Even with predefined point sizes.

GDOS performance hit

Hi. I'm noticing severe AES slow downs with GDOS active on TOS 1.4 and 1.6. The desktop is running about 50% of the speed it should. All events have a lag to them. It seems to run on 2.05 fine though. I need GDOS for some old apps that won't play nice with NVDI or Speedo. Microsoft Write won't work ...

The Amiga chipset can only DMA to and from chip ram. That's a 2 meg limit.

Re: What does Atari do better than Amiga?

So now that we are looking at upgrading the old workhorses with FPGA updates. There are a lot of stuff in the Amiga which would be a great upgrade to Atari. So I've been wondering what in the Atari would be good to upgrade the Amiga with. By the sounds of it Amiga would benefit with Atari blitter u...

Re: What does Atari do better than Amiga?

Got that right! The blitter is absolutely awesome in the ST. It's faster than the Amigas for window to window translation providing the ratio of fringe to inner area is weighted to the inside. I raster timed it recently with an 18 word 20 line high single plane copy with fringes. The STE beat the Am...

Re: Recommended hardware tweaks/mods for an Atari STe

I swapped out the CPU on a 1040 STe when Simbo fitted a Monster for me. We discovered that Atari used a 6 mhz (!) 68000 in the machine and overclocked it. I wonder how many other overclocked CPUS are out there in the STe.

Re: Recommended hardware tweaks/mods for an Atari STe

Correction, it will affect many ACSI storage devices, but far from all. Atari harddisks are known to work just fine, and from memory a couple of other well-known brands back then showed no problems. However, other host-adapters did trigger this problem, and the UltraSatan is known to not work relia...

ramtos.png
is the system output from sysinfo on the ramtos MSA disk.
It would be good to know the ROM date on each version of RAM TOS. I'd like to know when its the ST's birthday. I have a date of January 8th 1985 from somewhere but can't remember where it came from.

Will it just act like GDOS if it finds an old assign.sys ?
