Re: Porting SOTB to the Falcon

Farewell Atari developments.
I choose the Q68 to learn 68000, and this machine only.
At least people on the ql-forum showed enthusiasm and I already have a partner.

Re: Porting SOTB to the Falcon

Hey guys you know what ? The Falcon is going to leave the desk to free some more room for the Archies and the Q68. @Sturm : I was not trying to get some 'help' and whatever 'God' your Mikro can be, he is not among those I worship. (I have watched the demo, well, having a 060 and a DSP to produce tha...

Re: Porting SOTB to the Falcon

Right, what do I know about coding, porting or the Falcon for that matter. I was genuinely interested, mate. But whatever, I hope you prove me all wrong with your project. Criticising without even knowing SOTB (your statement) on the Amiga or enhanced systems like the FM towns and wondering why hi ...

Re: Porting SOTB to the Falcon

I'm no expert on SOTB but why exactly would you port a game for machine having 32 colours of 4096 and insist of using resolution of 65536 colours? Wouldn't be more logical to choose a project which would fully utilise Falcons's graphics and sound capabilities? Anyway, I'm with EvilFranky, apart fro...

Re: Porting SOTB to the Falcon

OK I get why as a technical demonstration this would be a cool thing to do. But honestly, the game is utter dog crap! Why not save yourself the effort and maybe only port the main part of SOTB as a proof of concept and leave it at that? You'll prove your point and save yourself any additional effor...

Re: Porting SOTB to the Falcon

Surely it'd be a lot easier to do SotB in bitplane mode? The Amiga playfield graphics would port straight across. Probably but then forget the 16 bit mode on the Falcon as it is chunky only. The Archie only uses chunky mode, and well I know how my version works ;-) and source is already heavily com...

Porting SOTB to the Falcon

Hi all. Currently working on a port to the Acorn Archimedes, I'd like to team with one or several Falcon coders to port SOTB to the Falcon too. Using chunky hi res mode. This way by sharing the code I have already developped for the Archie version, I believe it could be a win-win deal : - I'd know m...

Re: "speccy" ports

if i found source code for, say, Turrican for the zx spectrum, would it be possible to assemble that for the amstrad CPC? i understand if an answer cannot be given, seeing as knowledge of that computer is limited Yes, with a few minor changes about where you want to assemble the source in memory. It will be in a museum, if that can have the price kept down ;-)

Hello zarchos. What region will this museum be?

In Picardie, town is Noyon, 1 hour North of Paris by train, 01:15 by car. About 115 kms, 90% motorway (A1).

sorry there is no such thing if you want to be precise.
Others can try, but read wikipedia about what is assembly language, and what is BASIC, it will help you.

Re: "speccy" ports

so, the z80 MC is compatible, just not the BASIC? yes, as long as you do not 'talk' to specific parts of each machine like I/O ports (keyboard, joystick), sound chip, and memory where each machine has its own layout. BASIC is interpreted, so it is different, it is the keyword parser which does not ...

Re: "speccy" ports

I remember reading games were developped on more powerful machines like the Einstein, and some sort of tool converted the games logic, leaving 'only' for the coders the job of developping specific routines for what was strictly hardware specific like I/O and sprites plotting routines specific to the...

Hi, Spiny! Yes, I ha dalready found that discussion - in fact, it sparked my question ;-) The archive of noriscnofun made my day - just downloaded the 1.62-1 version, will let know here how it works. There is a brand new version of RISC OS coming up for Raspberry Pi, and it really is much faster th...

Re: We redesign the STE

About FPM memory to get a high memory bandwith ... the ARM and its memory controller were designed with that in mind, but could the 68000 or 68020 at the time use this feature ?
I believe not, and it is one of the reasons Acorn designed their own CPU, IIRC.

Re: We redesign the STE

All the talented coders I know left the archimedes 10 years ago. I've not seen anything interesting retro wise on the platform. It's the most inactive retro platform of them all. Out of curiosity I've looked on pouet and it's even worse. It seems the scene died in the 2000s. Guess what ? Contrary t...

Re: We redesign the STE

Arm32 is dead now. There's no arm64 port of RiscOS which is the future. There's no high end hardware. It's a hobby platform like the Amiga and the ST. At least the ST has EmuTOS and the Amiga has Aros. There's no open source equivalent on the archimedes. I know all about the mess behind the RiscOS ...
