Yes it works! If I format from windows% but it is not works if I format from Mac :( You're not getting fat16 from DiskUtil GUI. However, you can do it from Terminal: diskutil partitionDisk /dev/diskX MBR "MS-DOS FAT16" "ATARI1" 25% "MS-DOS FAT16" "ATARI2" 25%...

I love the style. It makes it less of a "boring" style documentary and more of a "guys guys - did you know - this is what happened and then this and oh this as well and it's sooooo cool!".

Don't think you have the last one with the 9 additions. I wonder if New Beat made it? Last time I asked we were not worthy because New Beat had never released anything on the ST. *sigh* :? That's what you get for 24 years of service. Made me lose interest in that poster. ... and provably wrong too!...

Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

@troed: Could you try to use your modified 1040 STFM and combine it with my SM124 modification I only have non-working SM124s I haven't fault analyzed yet. Will run those modes in color on my flatscreens :) (My doubleST machine runs off a GAL controlled clock divider nowadays and can easily switch ...

Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

So while not as awesome as this trick, since it requires an extensive hardware upgrade, some of you might recall the doubleST video modes I documented here: https://blog.troed.se/projects/atari-st-new-video-modes/ Combining that upgrade with this trick will result in: 320x400x16 640x400x4 (and 2560x...

Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

Actually, I have neither a switchable VGA adapter nor a VGA monitor capable of 15 kHz timing, and that's precisely the problem. I could of course make my SCART cable (that I use on my TV for color display) switchable to mono, but no... Sorry, I confused evil's posting about mcswitch with yours. I'm...

You have a mono/color selectable VGA switch right? Enter the mode and then flick the switch while connected to the same monitor as you use for regular ST resolutions.

Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

160x400x16 (512) also, but only STs connected to multisync capable monitors will display all of them. (and with a special adapter, the 1280x200x2 (b/w) will, really, make for some awesome demo effects. One word will turn the equivalent of a 4 low-res pixel wide "pixel" on/off. And they can...

Well running GLUE in color during active display should work, right? Still only two changes per scanline.

Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

As long as GLUE is in color then monitors will accept the signal, and the Shifter manically outputting lots of pixels will just make for some really nice dithering one bitplane possibilities. So here's another reason for ube to make new firmware for the ubeswitch. This mode (color sync but mono out...

Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

Btw, more than for actual display, I thought it could be useful for extra overscan/scroll switches that otherwise put SHIFTER in an unstable mode. Doing hi/lo GLUE tricks without the Shifter picking up on them. Would've been nice if the byte trick was the other way around, but I agree it's worth lo...

Re: The SECRET VIDEO MODE in an ST: 400 lines in COLOR (and with 72 Hz)!

The only drawback is that you have to keep TOS from detecting that no monochrome monitor is connected and subsequently resetting the computer. For my test, I chose the somewhat brute-force method of redirecting the VBL/VSYNC interrupt which is where TOS does this check. That vector is $46E - just p...

This is fantastic. I've spent a lot of hours trying to achieve something like this. How are you running GLUE in one mode (high) and Shifter in another (color)?

Re: Different SHIFTER versions

Great stuff Ijor, as always.

edit: For Closure specifically I've seen effects that are surely due to Shifter wakeup. With enough time I can use my LA to document which chips and wakeups where there are no issues, and maybe where they are (bugs only happen on machines I don't own myself, typically ;))

Re: Different SHIFTER versions

Thanks for the captures! The two different effects on the "big SYNC logo dist" with a power cycle in between are interesting. In the first video there's a bitplane error, and the cause is that my "stabilizer-free scanline" (which stabilize at the left border) has not clear the in...

Closure fullscreens should work with the old top border* - but the scrolling-dude screen might not when I think about it. I understand you tested Closure with an IMP Shifter, right?
