From memory, from reading the changelogs, the guys doing the MIDI sequencer split off and kept maintaining it till ~1998.

Re: popping in sound when played at B4.

I don't hear it in the Steem I'm using, which I think is the 3.2+ from this page: http://ataristeven.exxoshost.co.uk/Steem_all_builds.htm it's 3.2 but has a few changes from the last CVS release by the original maintainers, most importantly it incorporates Gwem's volume tables so e.g. volume ramps a...

Re: The Falcon's confusing history

Why Tramiels were slow to update ST? My money is on the theory, that after they invested into retail chain that flopped, they lost most of the capital and had no real money to invest. And as charming as he is ;) Jack had trouble finding any 3rd party investor. the same story is with Commodore. I al...

Re: The Falcon's confusing history

I remember the Workbench being a miserable crashy mess in the first few years but upon reflection I was _very very young_ at the time and may not be a reliable witness.

Re: 'warm' lead sound

Sounds like chorus to me, play a regular square wave on two channels and detune one. (Or maybe slightly delay one of them instead, I must admit I didn't listen that carefully.)

Re: Steem & Tunesmith to MIDI device

The missing step is that you need some software midi points to connect them; I use loopMIDI: http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html

Re: Question(s) about MaxYMiser

I use maxYMiser with Steem (3.2 or 3.3, not that it should matter) and MIDI, so it definitely does work. Don't remember if I did any particular setup, though. Have you connected the right devices in Steem Options / Ports?

Re: Question(s) about MaxYMiser

You're using the STE DMA rather than the YM Digidrums? I don't normally use them but looking at the manual and fiddling a little: - Look in config, STe DMA option. If it's on '2ch' or '1ch' then the sample changes pitch as you play different notes. Uses more CPU though. - If it's on 'nat' then it us...

Re: Eye of the beholder

CFOU never told me about the 16 colors version, he worked on the 256 colors version. Anyway, sorry to tell you that 16 colors EGA data files are not supported, so nothing from those will be possible. Only the Amiga OCS 32 colors and VGA 256 colors are supported by the actual tools. F*ck's sake, I a...

dfrsilver, you are wrong, again, because Eye of the Beholder _runs fine in 16-colour EGA_. A quick google suggests it actually has specific EGA art assets.

You can do it all within Steem: - open the disk manager (rightmost toolbar icon) - set up a hard drive, point it to where on your computer you extracted the ST User files - create a floppy disk image by right-clicking on the... bottom area in the disk manager, the file explorer pane type thingy, and...

Oh, it suddenly occurs to me that if you are genuinely using a 520ST, EditTrack needs 1MB and a 720K drive.

Re: how to convert Atari EZ-Track

If EZ-Track doesn't let you save as .mid, you can use EditTrack to convert your files; it can load EZ-Track songs. http://tamw.atari-users.net/hyart.htm (scroll down to the bottom) To save you reading the docs: start up EditTrack, load a .SNG file by left -clicking on the Load menu item, save a .MID...

Re: Full screen mode in STeem

I had this problem; it was because 'Never Use DirectDraw' was checked in Options / Startup. It turns itself on sometimes when there's a conflict with another running program, first popping up a dialog box that I always just clicked through and ignored.
