Re: 520 STM - video

I just got mt Mega2 up and running, but the PSU went poof. Luckily I had some PSU's for external CDRoms floating around. Hotwire it and away it wet. I got desktop. Cost me a few new caps. But RAM it was. Now for the PSU.

Re: 520 STM - video

Good to know I'm on the right track. :-) I buzzed out the RAM on me Mega4 and all good, so it looks like a case of faulty chip. Mega4 has 32 1mbx1. This might take a while. I tried piggybacking too. I'm half tempted to get a marpet board and disable the onboard RAM. I have to go get spares today to ...

Re: 520 STM - video

From the looks of it, RAM. I have progressed to a black screen with white boarders toying with it. Unfortunately, with a Mega 4 that is a ton of RAM. What board revision are you running?

I'd be interested to see if anyone has come across this one too. I have a Mega4 doing near the exact same thing.

I'll let you know if I work it out.

I don't know why, but this thread feels like 1981. What are you doing with it?

Re: Tape drives for atari 800

It is cheaper than a XF551, any day of the week. :D SIO2USB would be a better well.option. I tink it can emulate tape loading, but I haven't tried. Disk emulation works really well.

Re: Tape drives for atari 800

No. There is no way to hook into the SIO port, that I know of. If you could mod it, it would end up being more expensive than a $29 1010.

Re: Tape drives for atari 800

XC12 or 1010 will work, there are very few after market ones that I am aware of and ebay should yield the 1010 or 410 pretty cheap, I would imagine.

Re: Easiest way to get high speed serial on Mega STe?

TT, MegaSTE or Falcon all support high speed. Up to 115k IIR. If memory serves, Serial 1 is plain jane MFP driven so only supports 19,200. Serial 2 and Modem 1 are high speed. I used them back in the day for comms (57600) and ghostlink (115k). I used STalker. Simple and effective. Connect was good t...

Re: Overscan demo list

pretty sure I have those knocking about in my drawer of demos, thanks, I'll pull them out. It'd be cool if pouet etc had notes if they included overscan.

Considering how easy lacescan is to install, I'm surprised there is nothing to exploit it.

Re: Read about the Atari company history

Sega got done for copying/using the 9 pin digital joystick ports. My understanding is Sega paid as a settlement. It didn't give them any patents, just rights to use their technology, retrospectively and in the future. That 40 mill was then rolled into JTS to produce 3.5" and 3" hard drives...

Overscan demo list

Having just moved, I have been pulling out and evaluating/repairing all the ST's I have had in storage. I have an NEC LCD hooked up via scart and the pic is pretty damned good. What is a lot more noticeable are the boarders. I was wondering if anyone has a list of demos (or games, for that matter) t...

Re: Surviving STs

Yup. And in ten years PS2's will skyrocket as well. I would have loved an A600 (nice and compact), now they are just silly prices. Maybe I should hold on the the A500's and milk them :-)

I just gave away my classic Mac, to a mate. We just moved and I found a couple more A500's I didn't know I had. They are as prolific as rabbits. I guess cause no one wants them. :-) Transputers are unobtainable. Most of my stuff I got when people were throwing them out, 20 years ago. I have since le...

Re: Surviving STs

STFM's are by far the most common in Australia. I have 5 or 6 or something, and only 1 STE. This may be why there aren't too many around. I keep a lot of spares and so do a lot of other people.

Don't be discouraged. I have 2 Falcons a TT030 and a MegaSTE. They are out there.

Absolutely it is up to them. I still get marketing info from them at work. My requirement for them is low, but, you can bet your bottom dollar they get good publicity from it. No one here would complain about their product, in fact, there are several people pointing out inferior Chinese knock offs a...

Re: 2 versions of SMD-340, need help

I'm in Aussie, might not be too helpful. ;-) Yes, I have put 1.44's into MegaSTE's before. They work differently to a Falcon in that they need the right controller and jumper setup to work in HD. WD1772-02 or Ajax. Early models had DD and WD1772's, they moved off to the Ajax and HD. A jumper needs t...
